Pumas flyhalf Ricardo Croy looks to have been ruled out of Friday’s second-round Currie Cup clash against the Sharks, at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. The versatile pivot, who was one of the standout players in his side’s good opening performance against the Lions, is suffering from a bout of the ‘flu.
Coach Jimmy Stonehouse has already needed to find replacements for two of his key tight forwards after prop Dawie Steyn and lock Rudi Mathee had to pull out and the non-availability of Croy will further weaken his side when they can least afford it. Boela Serfontein and the interestingly-named DeeJay Terblanche will replace Mathee and Steyn respectively, while a late call will be made as to whether former Sharks junior Tiaan Marx, or Coenie van Wyk will start in Croy’s number 10 jersey.
Pumas: 15 MJ Mentz; 14 Deon Scholtz, 13 JW Jonker, 12 Pieter Engelbrecht, 11 Ashwin Scott; 10 Tiaan Marx/Coenie van Wyk, 9 Shaun Venter; 8 Doppies le Roux, 7 Jaco Bouwer, 6 Corné Steenkamp (capt), 5 Marius Coetzer, 4 Boela Serfontein, 3 Ashley Buys, 2 Pellow van der Westhuizen, 1 DeeJay Terblanche.
Reserves: 16 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 17 Brett Nel, 18 Eduan van der Walt, 19 RW Kember, 20 Tian Meyer, 21 Tiaan Marx/Coenie van Wyk, 22 Carl Bezuidenhout/Shandré Frolick.
