Sharks lock Alistair Hargreaves has been promoted to the Bok starting lineup for Saturday’s Tri-Nations opener against the Wallabies.
Former provincial team mate Johann Muller has been withdrawn from the side, after his hamstring injury failed to heal quickly enough, handing the former DHS boy his first test start in the number 5 jersey. Hargreaves has represented the Boks in a handful of tests as a replacement.
Another Sharks forward in Ryan Kankowski will also benefit, with the big loosie added to the bench in Hargreaves’ spot. Danie Rossouw, named to start at flank, will no doubt move to lock later in the game, with two loose forwards on the bench in Kankowski and Jean Deysel.
Revised Bok 22:
15 Aplon 14 Basson 13 de Jongh 12 Olivier 11 Mvovo 10 Steyn 9 Pienaar 8 Johnson 7 Rossouw 6 Stegmann 5 Hargreaves 4 van der Merwe 3 Kruger 2 Smit (capt) 1 Greyling
16 Ralepelle, 17 van der Linde, 18 Kankowski, 19 Deysel, 20 McLeod, 21 Jacobs, 22 Lambie

Happy for Hargreaves…
Excellent stuff.
Congratulations to Hargreaves.
I hope these boys pull it off! I play in two Girls only pools and I really need to save face! 😆
Go Bokke!!!
Go Bokke!! Go Sharks!!
Where are the 2+3 brothers?
I believe the Greeks, Cheats and Cows teams has been announced. Not sure about the Weeps but the team might be up as well. Sorry about the alternative naming of the teams but certain buttons doesn’t seem to be working so nicely this morning.
@Rahul (Comment 6) : Resting / injured in RSA.
@Rahul (Comment 6) : In SA with the rest of the “injured” boks
@JarsonX (Comment 7) : Weeps team has been on the site for a while already
@JarsonX (Comment 7) : Check the site for most of thos teams. Cheetahs are waiting on Ebersohn before announcing their team I believe.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 10) : Thought I saw it somewhere but not important enough to check 😉 @KSA Shark © (Comment 11) : Saw their teams in Beeld 🙂
Well done to Hargo. He deserves it.
This just proves how close Mossie is/was to a Bok cap. He may have been a regular on the Bok bench by next year if he’d decided to stay on.
@vanmartin (Comment 14) : yeah… a bit of a silly decision, in hindsight
Can’t believe how much abuse Hargreaves is getting on other sites. People moaning about him not being physical enough and then suggesting that Danie should have been moved to lock. I guess they don’t know that Hargo is a number 5 lock and Danie a number 4. With Muller out injured it’s a like for like change and doesn’t disrupt the team that much!
All the best Hargreaves.
PdV should never have taken a injured Muller. Should have gone with Mostert.
Anyhow that is in the past.
Good luck Boks.
well done Al. Though I think Muller would be much better. Fortunately Flip is a “heavy” lock.
congrats to him and hopefully he takes this opportunity as there are gonna be post world cup vacancies in the bok setup
I hear Cooper might be out! Missed out on practise due to gyppo’s…
