Three wins on the road for Sharks

It wasn’t always easy and in some cases, it certainly wasn’t pretty, but the Sharks recorded away wins in all three Currie Cup age divisions this weekend, away from home.

Most will know by now that the senior side battled far more than was expected overcoming a Pumas side that is, frankly, playing a million times better than it ought to given the players in it. Any thought of bonus point wins went out the window after the hour mark and the Sharks had to dig deep just to secure a win, which they duly did, courtesy of a late Dale Chadwick try. The 23-22 victory saw the Sharks add four log points to their total, which briefly catapulted them to the top of the Premier Division log, before the Lions’ unexpected big win over Griquas saw the Joburg boys claim top spot based on point difference.

In the other game on Friday night, Allan Dell’s under 19s picked up their first log points of the season – all five on offer – as they beat the SWD Eagles 34-3 at a wet and windy Outeniqua Stadium in George. The win moves the baby Sharks to 3rd on a very crowded log.

Saturday saw Shaun Malton and his talented under 21 side run in 10 tries as they outclassed the Valke in Brakpan, to the tune of 69-23. They move up to second on the log as a result, with the win somewhat tempered by a concussion picked up by promising open-sider Chris Cloete early in the macth.

More detailed match reports on all three games will follow on Monday. Well done, Sharks!
