After 3 Rounds / Weeks of the ITM Competitions we have surprise leaders of both the Premiership and Championship divisions as well as some teams that seasons could be over already. Premiership front runners the Steamers will be thrown straight back into the cauldron tomorrow against big brother neighbours the ‘Mooloo Men’ to see if their Premiership credentials are just an aberration.
Week 3 Review
Week 3 saw both Bay of Plenty and Manawatu continue their rich vein of form, for them both to lead their respective competitions. The result however of the weekend was Sunday afternoons clash between Ranfurly Shield holders and ITM Champions Canterbury against Southland. In a classic Shield tussle the men from Southland wrestled away the coveted ’Log of Wood’ back to Invercargill in what was an inspired team effort from the Stags. Their first defence will be against an in form Counties Manukau side that has never held the Shield in their history – is there a chance ‘Tana’ may be rolled out for the occasion? Only time will time.

Game 19 Bay of Plenty v Waikato Prediction: Waikato by 5-10 points
Bay of Plenty has been particularly impressive in their two outings of the season and have won them both well. However Waikato have never travelled to Rotorua with anything else than a victory on their minds.

Game 20 Wellington v Canterbury Prediction: Canterbury by 10-15 points
Wellington finished the game strongly last time out when losing to Auckland at home in horrendous conditions. Canterbury on the other hand will have to be on their mettle to avoid their second loss on the bounce. With an exceptionally quick turnaround expect Canterbury to freshen up their side with a few Crusaders returning to full time duty as well as some fringe players to feature in the team mix. It’s once again going to be a very close contest.
TEAMS:
Wellington: 1. Jacob Ellison, 2. Dane Coles, 3. Whetu Henry, 4. Jeremy Thrush (capt), 5. Mark Reddish, 6. Brad Shields, 7. Scott Fuglistaller, 8. Victor Vito, 9. TJ Perenara, 10. Lima Sopoaga, 11. Julian Savea, 12. Michael Hobbs, 13. Alipate Leiua, 14. Jason Woodward, 15. Apoua Stewart.

Canterbury: 1. Paea Fa’anunu, 2. Paul Ngauamo, 3. Andrew Olorenshaw, 4. Luke Romano, 5. Joel Everson, 6. Ash Parker (capt), 7. Brendon O’Connor, 8. Nasi Manu, 9. Mark Swanepoel, 10. Tyler Bleyendaal, 11. Matt Thatcher, 12. Tom Taylor, 13. Robbie Fruean, 14. Telusa Veainu, 15. Johnny McNicholl.

Game 21 Northland v Taranaki Prediction: Taranaki by 5-10 points
Northland will be pleased to be home after letting it slip in the weekend against the Turbos in Palmerston North. Taranaki however will be buoyed by their comeback win against the more fancied Waikato side. Again it could go either way but I’m tipping the visitors to edge it.
TEAMS:
Northland: 1. Justin Davies, 2. Ross Wright, 3. Scott Vessey, 4. Mark Burman, 5. Bryce Williams, 6. Joel McKenty, 7. Dan Pryor, 8. Cameron Eyre, 9. Rhyan Caine, 10. Jack McPhee, 11. Bryce Heem, 12. Aaron Bancroft, 13. Rene Ranger, 14. Lachie Munro, 15. Jared Payne (capt).
Reserves: 16. Tim Dow, 17. Jamie Corsi, 18. Dan Faleafa, 19. Cam Goodhue, 20. Wayne Ngaluafe, 21. Ash Moeke, 22. Simon Munro, 23. Aterea Davis.
