Springbok management has decided to release a group of 15 players that were involved in the away leg of the Tri Nations for selection at Currie Cup level this weekend, along with a further 8 players that were selected as part of the Preliminary squad, who did not tour .

The Sharks get back Adi Jacobs, Patrick Lambie, Charl McLeod, Lwazi Mvovo, Odwa Ndungane, Alistair Hargreaves and Ryan Kankowski for possible selection against Griquas this weekend. • Just to add to the article:

This does not mean that these players cannot be selected to play in the Home leg of the Tri Nations..

It could be that they get game time at the Unions..

  • Well Plum is right in not playing the Sharks Boks. Well for now that is. They need a rest.

Remember our Sharks Boks have now been to NZ 3 times this year. They need a rest.

Well we know for sure now that Morne Steyn will be in the wc squad. Lambie might not make it. Why I have no idea why. He played far better than Morne on this tour alone.

Just can’t understand why he was released though. Lambie and Deysel were the best Boks on Saturday. Morne probably with Basson the absolute worst.

Anyhow would rather see Lambie with a better coach and the new young Boks of 2012. Also we will be playing a better game plan next year with the next coach. Well hope so.

  • Not such a bad thing . Pat Lambie would enjoy playing behind a decent pack. Lwazi could benefit from actually being passed the ball for once and not having to mark 3 men on the outside overlap all the time.

  • @sharks_lover (Comment 18) : Yes I do. Damn mad about it. How the heck did Morne get selected ahead of Lambie? Lambie out played Morne not by just a bit but a whole damn lot on Saturday and the week before.

Damn them. Now rather see Lambie in a better team with the Boks next year. Playing a better game plan with a better coach.

Still annoyed. Morne played just terrible and gets the nod ahead of Lambie who was only one of about 4 or 5 players that played well on Saturday. Actually Lambie was our 2nd best next to Deysel.

  • @vanmartin (Comment 24) : Cause why would he be released back to the Sharks for CC? He played better than Morne and Morne is not released back to Bulls.

We have to fhs on tour. Morne and Butch. Utility players – Ruan, Fransie and Hougaard. See Ruan not released either so he will make it. Though he never played well on this tour.

So Ruan will cover sh and fh. Fransie can cover 12 and fb. Hougaard covers sh and wing. Lambie gonna miss out. What a huge shame I think. One of the better players out of many that were not up to it on this tour.

  • Wonder what mostert is thinking now?oh well, think if he makes wc squad, whoever is coach next year, will retain him in bok squad.so in a way it will be up to him to then play himself out of bok team(considering the departure of both d rossouw and bakkies as well as vic).
Bakkies will also still be playing rugby next season in france,so he should not be seen as totally lost to int rugby.
Wonder if ali hargs won’t struggle at sharks in a season or two to keep a place in starting xv?there seems to be some good and keen youngsters coming thru the ranks.

  • @bergshark (Comment 29) : I hope so too. Rate Fransie plenty. They may have in mind to use Morne at fb. Damn that would be stupid. Just to have him on the field to kick. We need a better fb. So think Butch will be on the bench and Fransie to fb. Unfortunately cause I think he will be better at inside centre.

Our game plan is so out of date. That will let us down big time. If they had any intention of playing with more possession we would see Lambie being retained. It is gonna be the kick and chase game that let us down very bad last year against the ABs and also the eoyt which we hardly looked good playing.

Also doubt we can go by much when the Abs and Aussies tour here. Think Aussies no doubt will bring their best. They don’t have enough depth. Doubt Abs are gonna send all of their best here either. Be prepared for some of the top ABs to be rested coming here.

Our Boks just won’t have enough game time before this world cup. WE hardly looked great against Wales last year and lost to a very poor Scotland. Now we face two Island teams in our pool and Wales. We may not even make it out of our pool. If that is the case then I rather have Lambie stay right here at home and not let his name down with a Bok team that might not make it through.

I was hoping we make it to the semi. If we do well done. But can’t see that happen. Not with the out of date daft kick and chase Bull style rugby that we have to play. Kicker or no kicker we won’t win it or get close.

Look Carter missed many on Saturday and it mattered not. Cause they the (Abs) score tries.

  • @bergshark (Comment 35) : Seems rather too late to work on another game plan. We should have tried it out on the eoyt last year.

Doubt it will be a new game plan. Read before our youngsters left for the away 3N that PdV said they would play the same game plan that the other Boks left at home would play. Just in case of injury and they have to slot in they will be ready. Not even sure what game plan we played in the away tour. We were shocking. Except a few.

In that few was Lambie. He stood out amongst some very ordinary play by others. How he got left out is a mystery. Must be we gonna play the kick and chase Bull Style rugby that hardly got them anywhere in the S15 this year or our Boks last year either.

  • @bergshark (Comment 40) : Agents just get to me sometimes. I think it is the Agents that push the players to go over. Mostert should have been patient and waited until after the Tri-Nations. That way he would have known if he would get selected or not. Anyhow he is there and probably will go to this world cup. Many injuries right now so think he will get to the world cup. He deserves it after a great first performance in a Bok jersey.

It does actually seem a bit far fetched to believe the boks will have wholesale changes to their game plan, but it would be nice to see some creativity creep in somewhere during a 80min bok test.

  • I am worried about the Bok chances at the World Cup. P Divs continued backing of Ruan, CJ and Morne is going to be the achilles heel that loses the tournament. All three players are nowhere near the quality needed to win at the business end of the tournament. I see a Mallett RWC tournament ahead. A year where the trophy should have been won had the right selections been made.

  • I fully support Plum not using the returning Boks this week against Griquas. Rather stick with the team that is gelling as Kimberly is not an easy place to go and win so some consistency is needed. After the Boks for the home leg of the TriNations is selected on Saturday then Plum will have a clearer idea of who he will have for the season and can then start to mould his team including the returning Boks.

It’s Lambie’s second season with the boks so perhaps moving him around can be explained by advantage of rather playing than him sitting on the bench.
