News broke earlier this week that Coenie Oosthuizen and a number of other Cheetahs players have all signed contract extensions with the union, but the most important signature was still outstanding. Not anymore…
Heinrich Brüssow has penned another two year deal with Bloemfontein based Union, keeping him there until the end of the 2013 season. According to agent Stephan Weyers, Brüssow had received lucrative offers from other unions and even from Europe, but the Cheetahs have managed to put together a package that the flanker liked.
The ball thief from Bloemfontein’s contract extension is a massive boost for the Cheetahs who often have talented young players poached by bigger unions with deeper pockets.

Thats massive for the Cheetahs. Would have loved Coenie and Heinrich in black and white though!
@billy (Comment 1) :
Coenie is a liability, he can stay in Bloemfontein!
Heinrich on the other hand, would fit into the picture quite nicely, except for the decision of who to drop from the Sharks loosies
🙁
@billy (Comment 1) : Heinrich would have been huge for the Sharks. Not so sure about Coenie though.
only guys I want to buy back are Justin Downey and Jean Stemmet
@robdylan (Comment 5) :
Agree with Jean Stemmet, he has made an impact at Griquas..
Where would you make space for Downey in the loosies?
@Pokkel (Comment 4) : I see it’s new avatar season all round!
I find the idea of Coenie Oosthuizen playing for the Sharks as appetizing as eternity with only Beyonce on the radio, only Dan Brown to read, only Tom Cruise movies to watch, and only rooibos tea to drink. So in other words, not very.
@billy (Comment 1) : PUKE!!! Oosthuizen is a walking penalty. 🙁
seriously just sign up frans steyn problem over
@Talent (Comment 9) :
Hahahahahaha!!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 10) : haha its true
@Culling Song (Comment 7) :
Nice way of putting!
@Talent (Comment 11) :
What problem?
The fact that all our backs are all in shape?
Good for the Cheetahs, he will be like Smith to loyal to leave
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 13) : wont take more than a few weeks to get him back into shape ,hes not that bad. He`s probably the most outrageous talent to come out of sa in the last 10 years
@Talent (Comment 15) :
He might be talented yes, but he also has the most outrageous attitude/ego of any player to ever come out of South Africa!
still would like to see him back in our midfield, but you are right
@Talent (Comment 17) : @Richard Ferguson (Comment 16) : HUGE shame that such a big talent went to waste!
@Culling Song (Comment 7) : have you made a draai by bokworld yet?
@Franshark (Comment 19) : Briefly, but things are HECTIC at work.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 16) : Rich, your knowledge of players is far superior to my own so I’m asking this out of curiosity. I constantly hear Frans Steyn’s ego being brought up but is this fact or Voldy allegation?
@Culling Song (Comment 20) : love the foto of yourself, did you change your hair 😉
@vanmartin (Comment 21) : Its come from too many sources to not be fact.Voldy isn’t even one.
@Franshark (Comment 22) : Hard work has never killed anyone, but it sure has ruined my good looks
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 23) : yes – agree… I’ve heard from lots of credible, non-Voldy sources that Steyn is a prat
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 23) : Could you link to one of those sources?
It’s just strange to me that both Jake White and John Smit only had good things to say about him in their biographies. I’m just worried that Sharksworld bloggers are perpetuating a rumour based on hearsay and/or jealousy from fellow players and/or the fact that he didn’t really aid our cause in that S14 final.
And if it is true I’m thinking quite a few rugby players probably probably have an ego problem. Doubt it’s unique to Frans Steyn.
Looks like Frans Verster has leant his lesson!! Good maybe some unions will be forced to look within now. 😮
@vanmartin (Comment 26) : I refer you to Rob 😀
@vanmartin (Comment 26) : True words , well one has to look at a guy like flouw he deserted province and country once his own interests not satisfied right away
@Talent (Comment 29) : How so?
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 28) : Clayton, did you just pull a turbo reverse?
@vanmartin (Comment 21) :
I met the little prick.. He is not as humble and ‘real-afrikaans-boytjie’ as some of the guys make him out to be..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 32) : For argument’s sake let’s say we could judge him based on your encounter. Surely that ego is not unique to Frans Steyn?
@vanmartin (Comment 33) :
I would say it’s pretty unique if you compare it to any of the Sharks players I have met during my stint with Sharkworld so far..
@Talent (Comment 29) : What did Flouw do that was so wrong?He has been with WP for long, Bath sent down a massive delegation to secure his signature and after being dropped from the Bok squad after not being too bad he went for it.
Also he is one helluva nice guy.
@vanmartin (Comment 31) : No sir, I merely directed him to someone more qualified to comment than myself 😎
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 34) : Fair enough.
Look, I’ve never met the guy and have only read a few Voldy articles about his huge ego when it seemed to be in fashion to dislike him because he had the audacity to leave SA. Add to that the fact that young talented players usually have a polarizing effect on rugby fans. That’s why I ask.
I also think there’s a fair chance that a lot of people on here wouldn’t care about his ego if we had won the S14 final.
Finally, I won’t ever dispute that he’s lost some form in France. He’s not the player he was and I think Pat Lambie may be the better fit for fullback but I’ll reserve judgement on his character.
@vanmartin (Comment 37) :
Fair comment..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 34) : @vanmartin (Comment 37) : Some say Rich has met Jon Cardinelli and found him to be very pleasant.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 39) :
Some say you are making shit up! haha!
In fact, Mr Cardinelli was at the Currie Cup Final, and is a prick of note!! (in case you were wondering)
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 36) : Uh, that “him” in your comment is still me. Also, what happened to those sources of yours – is Rob your only source? 😀
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 39) : He seems to be the lesser of three evils
And that’s as close to a compliment as he’ll ever get from me!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 40) : I won’t die wondering brother, I often share oxygen with him at Newlands.
I’m outta here folks
Its good for SA Rugby to have Heinrich play there, although he is injury prone you can say he is one of the best open side flankers in the game today – if not the best… With a few more seasons his status may become legendary, it would be great to have him at The Tank, but I love our group of loosies, I would trade for a midfield… Midfield is our quagmire…
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 44) : cheers boetman
Vanmartin: agree,I haven’t met frans steyn either,and so I am not qualified to comment on his personality.wonder though what he would say of some of the people he has met?;-)
Would be nice to see whiteley at the tank(back there).like the work he is doing at the rucks plus he has super ball skills.80min player.
Coenie Oosthuizen potentially the best prop in the world. Biggest workrate out of any prop already.
Next year he will be in the Boks. 4 years time he’ll be starting loosehead in the team who tries to make it 3 World Cups in a row. 😀
@hendrikp (Comment 49) : As long as the Boks get a 9point head start, because we will need a head start with his penalty count.
Most Penalties Conceded during the Super Rugby season.
1. Coenrad Oosthuizen (Cheetahs) 30
2. Wyatt Crockett (Crusaders) 24
3. Deon Stegmann (Bulls) 22
3. Francois Louw (Stormers) 22
5. Beast Mtawarira (Sharks) 21
5. Derick Minnie (Lions) 21
7. Ben Alexander (Brumbies) 20
7. JC Janse Van Rensburg (Lions) 20
9. Greg Somerville (Rebels) 19
9. Jarrad Hoeata (Highlanders) 19
11. Ben Daley (Reds) 18
11. Gareth Delve (Rebels) 18
11. Jarrod Saffy (Rebels) 18
And on top of that he is a “geniepsige klein drol”
@hendrikp (Comment 49) :
And the fact that he has now moved to tighthead, I think he has given up competing against the Beast..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 51) :
He’s hardly moved to tighthead. He’s playing there because the only quality props in the Free State are Coenie Oosthuizen (LH), Marcel van der Merwe (LH) and WP Nel (TH). To get 2 best on the park with WP Nel out Coenie needs to play there until Nel comes back. They’ll include Lourens Adriaanse in the S15 squad as a quality tighthead back-up.
I could care less about his penalty count. He’s an excellent fetcher and will improve with experience.
Watch him next year. He’s going to be the worlds number. 1 loosehead.
