Griquas coach Abre Minnie has been forced into malking a number of backline changes ahead of his team’s match against Western Province tomorrow, with key injuries hampering the side’s ability to field their best team consistently.
The brave move made this week is that of shifting Riaan Viljoen, who has played both fullback and wing so far this season, into the flyhalf position in the place of Earl Rose. This should have the Sharks sitting up and taking notice, as a successful shift to flyhalf could result in a shift into the centres for Viljoen.
Barry Geel and Jean Stemmet have also been ruled out of the clash, with Hanno Coetzee and Wilmaure Louw taking their spots in the centres, facing off with the young Western Province due of Marcel Brache and Johann Sadie.
Griquas: 15 Rudi Vogt, 14 Rocco Jansen, 13 Wilmaure Louw, 12 Hanno Coetzee, 11 Dusty Noble, 10 Riaan Viljoen, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Jonathan Mokuena (captain), 7 Davon Raubenheimer, 6 Justin Downey, 5 Martin Muller, 4 Hendrik Roodt, 3 Lourens Adriaanse, 2 Ryno Barnes, 1 Ivann Espag.
Replacements: 16 Simon Westraadt, 17 Steph Roberts, 18 Frikkie Spies, 19 Marnus Schoeman, 20 Marnus Hugo, 21 Jean Stemmet, 22 Earl Rose.

we gonna kill em.
@molly (Comment 1) :
Agreed.. this had made my SuperBru pick for me!
this is gonne be interesting to see… Viljoen at flyhalf.
He’ll play like de waal, I would imagine 🙂
Rich, Viljoen changed the game for the Kwa’s last week when he shifted to flyhalf. He was DAMN good, a very useful player.
benched Stemmet? Crazy
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : ugh… i made my pick a while ago, can’t remember who I went with.
@molly (Comment 4) :
I didn’t see it Molly.. to be honest..
But I would think that he would be a more solid (read consistent) flyhalf compared to Earl..
@robdylan (Comment 5) :
I think he is battling with a bit of an injury Rob.. If I recall..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 7) : I was quite surprised, he broke the line, did an AWESEM dummy and put the kwas on the front foot very well, look for the highlights if you can, the dummy on its own is worth it.
Don’t know about Riaan at 10. Does he have a solid enough pass on him? Does he take the ball flat or deep? Will be interesting to see.
The more I see Viljoen in the Currie Cup the more im glad the Sharks signed him. Hope he doesnt become a tackle bag holder like JLP though…
@molly (Comment 9) :
Should make for an interesting battle with Hercules…
Riaans going to buckle, Brache to catch the ball and score at least a brace
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 13) :
Should I bring him into my fantasy league team?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 14) : Right now it wouldnt be a bad idea.
Totally unexpected
Province by 15. 😈
@wpw (Comment 17) : Only 15? more than that IMO.
Viljoen didn’t have a bad game at ten.
