The Sharks host the Pumas at Mr. Price Kings Park this afternoon, in what should be a reasonably close game, if the Sharks’ previous encounters against the minnow teams are anything to go by.

The Sharks have an almost unchanged backline, with only Charl McLeod not in the mix after his injury and Conrad Hoffmann getting his chance to prove exactly how good he is. Amongst the forwards we see a shuffle in the loose trio and Alistair Hargreaves returning after a long injury spell.

On the Pumas side, they have called Tiaan Marx into the mix, and will be hoping to capitalize on the Sharks’ poor record by winning their first game of the Currie Cup.

The match kicks off at 15h00.

The Sharks: 15. Louis Ludik, 14. Sibusiso Sithole, 13. Stefan Terblanche, 12. Meyer Bosman, 11. Lwazi Mvovo, 10. Frederic Michalak, 9. Conrad Hoffmann, 8. Keegan Daniel (C), 7. Marcell Coetzee, 6. Jean Deysel, 5. Ross Skeate, 4. Alistair Hargreaves, 3. Wiehahn Herbst, 2. Craig Burden, 1. Dale Chadwick

Replacements: 16. Kyle Cooper, 17. Eugene van Staden, 18. Anton Bresler, 19. Jacques Botes, 20. Ross Cronje, 21. Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 22. Adrian Jacobs

Pumas: 15 MJ Mentz; 14 Wilhelm Looch, 13 JW Jonker, 12 Tiaan Marx, 11 Deon Scholtz; 10 Coenie van Wyk, 9 Shaun Venter; 8 Doppies le Roux, 7 CornΓ© Steenkamp (capt), 6 Jaco Bouwer, 5 Marius Coetzer, 4 Rudi Mathee, 3 Ashley Buys, 2 Pellow van der Westhuizen, 1 Dawie Steyn.

Subs: 16 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 17 Brett Nel, 18 Boela Serfontein, 19 JP Mostert, 20 Hendrik van der Nest, 21 Siviwe Magaba, 22 Johan Jackson.

  • Ref allowing a free for all at th breakdown, which is hurting us. We aren’t helping things with poor ruck technique though.

Chadwick is a good scrummager, but his defence and handling need work. That said, one can’t fault him too much for the lucky intercept try they scored.

  • Ref has allowed a free for all at the breakdown, but the sharks have very poor technique there. They have given away a large amount of penalties at the breakdown all season. Sharks actually desperately need an out and out fetcher flank.
