College Rovers kicked off their defence of the National Club Championship title with a solid 46-0 win over Cape side SK Walmers on Saturday evening.
Forgotten man Guy Cronje, whose brother Ross was making a good fist of his 25 minutes for the Sharks, was named man of the match in a strong performance that saw the KZN champions score 6 good tries. Cronje got his backs away brilliantly on the day, allowing wings Rosco Speckmann and Jors Danhauser to score a pair of tries each and also kicked well, netting 5 conversions and 2 penalties for a personal haul of 16 points.
The other tries were scored by prop Roy Godfrey and loose forward Kelvin Adam.
Rovers now face Winter Rose, surprise victors over Shimlas, in today’s first quarter-final, kicking off at 11h45.
Quarter final fixtures:
11h45, B field: College Rovers v Winter Rose
13h30, B field: Maties v Tuks
15h15, Stadium: UJ v Welkom Rovers
17h00, Stadium: Pukke v Park

Ross cronje 🙂
SK Walmers are a good side. They recently beat Maties in a a league game, so keeping them scoreless and putting on 46 points is a great effort.
😎
I wish this was televised..
Well done boys, make KZN proud!
Just read the club champ article on Guy Cronje, the forgotten man and man of the match. Pity there aren’t more people around who can read the game. Rugby is not necessarily about the person who scores the tries but the people who give good quick service and set up others to score the tries. A good team effort Rovers. Bring home the cup! yeeeeuw!
who is the coach for Rovers?
So who won?
Easy game first up I see.
Surprised SK Walmers side didn’t come prepared with machetes to be honest. 😆 Must’ve been a lot of security if Rovers were willing to play them.
College Rovers 44 vs Winter Roses 6
UJ 41 vs Welkom Rovers 20.
Rovers vs UJ in semis.
