Even though the senior team to face Western Province has not been announced, we can give you the U21 team in the meantime, and rule out early week speculation that Gouws Prinsloo might get a call up, as he is still in the 15 jersey.

The starting line-up sees only one change from the team that played the Cheetahs two weekends ago, with Monde Hadebe with the senior squad and Shaun Malton back from injury to captain the team.

Amongst the bench, two backline changes in jerseys 21 and 22 and Jared Meyer and Kieran Goss come in for Andrew Norton and Kayde Fisher.

The Sharks U21: 15. Gouws Prinsloo, 14. Jaco van Tonder, 13. Piet Lindeque, 12. Heimar Williams, 11. Nico van der Westhuizen, 10. Paul Jordaan, 9. Cobus Reinach, 8. Lubabalo Mtembu, 7. Siseko Jafta, 6. Chris Cloete, 5. Peet Marais, 4. Pieter-Stef du Toit, 3. Nick Schonert, 2. Shaun Malton (Capt), 1. Danie Mienie.

Reserves: 16. Gideon Bruwer, 17. Njabulo Mkize, 18. Karolis Navickas, 19. Brynard Stander, 20. Fred Zeilinga, 21. Jared Meyer, 22. Kieran Goss

  • This is pretty much our strongest possible team so we’d better win.

  • @beet (Comment 1) : I watched jared Meyer when he was at KES him and bradley moolman formed a potent centre combination for the lions under 18 craven week side.

  • @Muzi (Comment 4) : I’ve also seen him. Apparently we had Affies centre de Goede as well (I didn’t know this at the time) but he didn’t cut it and joined the Lions. He was a pretty good centre at school as well.

  • @Muzi (Comment 4) : The WP u21 backline for Sat should still be hot.

Sam Lane, Michael vd Spuy, JP du Plessis, Ryan Nell or Tythan Adams, Tshosho and Cohen.

We have to beat them up front and make sure our D is very alert. vd Spuy showed in the last game that they can score tries from deep.

The lineout battle where they killed us last time round will also be good – Peet Marais is back but Hugo and Etsebeth are as good as they come.

    11. Tythan Adams
    10. Sam Lane
    9. Fred Muller
    8. Jacques-Pier Swanepoel

Think WP will win both youth games, and lose the one that matters the most šŸ˜Æ šŸ˜„

  • @beet (Comment 6) : Don’t know ho you feel about this but I wish they would stop playing Paul Jordaan at flyhalf. He’s got more potential to become a devastating 12 than a 10 imo.

Also, the loss of Francois Steyn kind of highlights why we need Johan Goosen to live up to his potential. If you can slot penalties from 60 odd meters, you’ve got a BIG advantage.

Look, he hasnt done anything special.

That said, a line break and some good stepping shows promise..

I would rather have him in my team than try and defend against him..

He has seen very little ball though
