The second of the massive weekend games is at Mr Price Kings Park this evening as the Sharks host a Western Province outfit that seems to be in the worst run of injury they could ever imagine.
Sharks coach John Plumtree has made only a few changes to the team that disappointed against Griquas last weekend, with Charl McLeod back in the 9 jersey ahead of Ross Cronje that has dropped out of the match 22 altogether.
For Province, I bet their coach wishes he can name the same side every week, as two players in the Province backline make their starting debuts with Steyl starting at fullback in place of Jantjes and Klaasen starting ahead of a resting Sadie. The loose trio of Carr, Kolisi and Fenton-Wells is yet another new combination, and will have to spark against the likes of Deysel and Daniel.
Kick off for this match is at 17h05.
The Sharks: 15. Stefan Terblanche, 14. Sibusiso Sithole, 13. Marius Joubert, 12. Meyer Bosman, 11. Lwazi Mvovo, 10. Frederic Michalak, 9. Charl McLeod, 8. Keegan Daniel (Captain), 7. Jean Deysel, 6. Jacques Botes, 5. Ross Skeate, 4. Anton Bresler, 3. Eugene van Staden, 2. Kyle Cooper, 1. Dale Chadwick
Replacements: 16. Monde Hadebe, 17. Wiehahn Herbst, 18. Jan Andre Marais, 19. Marcell Coetzee, 20. Conrad Hoffmann, 21. Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 22. Adrian Jacobs
Western Province: 15. Heinrich Steyl, 14. Danie Poolman, 13. Berton Klaasen, 12. Marcel Brache, 11. JJ Engelbrecht, 10. Lionel Cronje, 9. Dewaldt Duvenage, 8. Nizaam Carr, 7. Siya Kolisi, 6. Nick Fenton-Wells, 5. De Kock Steenkamp, 4. Adriaan Fondse, 3. Brok Harris, 2. Tiaan Liebenberg (Captain), 1. JC Kritzinger
Reserves:16. Deon Fourie, 17. Frans Malherbe, 18. Tertius Daniller, 19. Nick Koster/Pieter Louw, 20. Louis Schreuder, 21. Johann Sadie, 22. Conrad Jantjes

So the Sharks have made a few changes to the team to play today:
1.Chadwick
2.Cooper
3.van Staden
4.Deysel
5. Skeate
6.Botes
7.Coetzee
8.Daniel
9.McLeod
10.Bosman
11.Mvovo
12.Joubert
13. Jacobs
14.Sithole
15. Stefan
16.Hadebe
17.Hebst
18.Bresler
19.Marais
20.Hoffmann
21.Michalak
22.Potgieter
Interesting… Only concern I have is that ultra-light loose trio. May be enough against the WP cubs.
@Big Fish (Comment 2) :
Deysel at lock adds some weight, he seems set on getting good go forward ball today..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 3) :
You still need weight in your loosies – they are often the primary runners.
Deysel at lock weakens the lineout, and Cooper’s throwing is not quite proven.
@Big Fish (Comment 4) :
Yeah, not sure what the thinking is behind the lock move?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) :
I like it. Deysel a tough guy, so if he can jump at 4 then it’ll help the Sharks ground game and mobility a bit.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : 😯 😯
Hope Adi can spark that backline from the start… 😉
Almost time for the real rugga 😛
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : Are you sure that team is not the one from Culling Song’s alternate reality? 😈
So what are the permutations here? We need a bonus point victory to stay in touch or is the race for top spot over?
ADI!!!!!!!!!
Has Deysel played at lock before? I can’t think that he has. That is a HUGE gamble. The other changes are just fine.
WTF Bosman at 10. 👿 😯 😯
WOOOOOOOOOOO Adi is starting! 😀 😀
great little run by hosepipe!!!!
Ah damn. Lions came away with 2 points.
JJ Engelbrecht just gets caught how to NOT catch a ball under pressure as Daniel runs over him.
So basically, the Lions have wrapped up top spot. 🙁
anyone know whathappened in the griquas game and in the u/19’s game sharks vs wp?
Way forward pass that was 😛
HOW DID CRONJE EVEN CONSIDER PASSING SUCH A FORWARD PASS!?!?!?!?! like 2m forward over a 5m distance. 😯
think this should be a tight game. would’ve loved to see bosman and oupa against the 2 province youngsters…..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 22) : Hoe gaan’t Oubaas?
@Kopskudkinders (Comment 20) : griquas only started at 16:00 RSA time.
Sharks are playing some exciting stuff. I like.
Mountaineers get penalised on their 5m line for offsides. Oupa takes the lineout. 😕
@klempie (Comment 24) : Cool thanks you young whipersnap. 😛
Sharks on the line!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 28) : Young…. 🙄
TRY WOLLA!!!
Deysel try!!
Bosman to converts a difficult kick.
Deysel has been very influential so far.
Flyhalf and centres combining well too. Loooking good so far.
Sharks 7 – 0 WP
10min
Sharks 7 – 0 Mountaineers
11 mins
Jantjies comes on for Steyl to earn his 100th CC cap.
Steyl replaced after 10mins 😕 Why? Injured?
Sharks have 82% possession. 😯
82 % territory
75 % possesion to the Sharks.
go SHARKS
@KSA Shark © (Comment 40) : oops switch those around
@KSA Shark © (Comment 40) : Other way around grootseun.
@klempie (Comment 43) : Like I said. 😛
@Original Pierre (Comment 11) : The Lions aren’t going to lose to Province at home. So they’ve basically wrapped up top spot.
Province denied a try from a foot in touch.
Sharks are undoing all their good work now.
Penalty advantage and they’re going for poles.
Wow am I dreaming or did Adi really start? 😀
Cronje misses again
@Ben (Comment 49) : No need to pinch yourself! 😀
Our basics have been poor – both on attack and at the ruck.
Disappointing to see a guy with Botes’ experience enter a ruck from the side right in front of the ref. We need more from our senior players then they have delivered recently.
The wind is terrible out there 😕
Adi knocks on! 😯
@Big Fish (Comment 54) : WTF does Plum start that bloody butterfingers?? 🙄
Cronje passes another FORWARD pass. 😆
@klempie (Comment 51) :
Steyl down, looks like a a heavily twisted ankle as Mvovo tackled him from behind.
Going off on the golf-cart after a splint is applied
Provine’s injury woes continue! 😕
Now the WP doesn’t have 22 fit players
@KSA Shark © (Comment 56) :
Could become a good quarterback.
@klempie (Comment 55) :
Calm down Panicky Patty. 🙄
Sharks giving Steyl a tap of sympathy as he’s driven off the field. 😎
@Big Fish (Comment 61) : Dude I was being ironic. 😛
Loving that Adi has started.
come sharks.turn up the gas
Province pressuring the Sharks line and Poolman eventually goes over.
@Mutley (Comment 60) : Holy @#$, I’ve just been called by Alistair Coetzee; I’ve been told to take the field in the second half. Hold thumbs, boys! 😛
Sharks 7 – 7 Mountaineers
30 mins
Lawrence got that wrong. Daniel kicked it into touch.
Stop knocking the ball on numnuts!
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
Plum obviously wants to throw this game. Saw you could get 3 odds on Sportsbet for wp.
That`s the only reason I can think of for dropping our Match Winner and Man of the Match at Newlands, Fred Michalak for Bosman and Joubert.
Time to look around for a new coach me thinks . . .
Campese or Robbie Deans maybe ??
Coetzee lovely tackle on Duvenhage, let that be a lesson to all scrumhalves who like to take 5 steps before passing.
Province penalty after Sharks go off their feet.
@Original Pierre (Comment 70) : Michalak was dropped for Adi..
🙄 🙄 🙄
Seriously – can someone like Prinsloo really not be better than Stefan? 🙄
@Big Fish (Comment 61) : panicky patty 😆 😆 😆 😆
Missed after th ball fell over and he had to rush the kick,
@Big Fish (Comment 75) : Does prinsloo have hands like that? 😉
Sithole bumps off 2 tacklers in a beautiful little run – this kid gives me hope.
Ai 🙁 🙄
HT Sharks 7 – 7 Mountaineers
Hmmmm
HALF TIME
Sharks 7 – 7 WP
Do you guys believe me now when I maintain that Bosman is our worst signing since Rodger Smith or Hakkies Husselman? 🙄
Griquas update???
@Original Pierre (Comment 83) : No.
@Original Pierre (Comment 83) : Who? 😐
@KSA Shark © (Comment 82) : KSA, what u doing.. Every thing get tide now 😉
@Original Pierre (Comment 83) :
Slow down geezer – Rodger Smith truly broke new ground. 😈
@KSA Shark © (Comment 78) :
Apparently we will never know.
@JarsonX (Comment 84) : can’t see any.
@Big Fish (Comment 79) : Hosepipe Sithole. 😛
Sharks need to tighten up and cut out the silly shit
@Original Pierre (Comment 83) : Well there was Kees Lensing and Epi Taione.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 90) : Hosepipe?
@klempie (Comment 93) :
Predictable that that would catch your attention.
Still single? 😈
@Big Fish (Comment 94) : Actually no…
@klempie (Comment 93) : At the Sharks Ladies breakfast the ladies were told that his nickname is hosepipe.
They asked him how he got the name and after some thought he explained that it was due to a big vein on his bicep. 😛
@Big Fish (Comment 94) : 😛
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : Wait. That’s his nickname? 😯
@klempie (Comment 95) :
Congratulations! 😆
@KSA Shark © (Comment 96) : A little lie probably 😈
Is J-LP coming back from injury or just out of favour?
Lineouts are disappointing
@Loosehead (Comment 101) : WHO? 😛
@KSA Shark © (Comment 103) : That bad hey? ❓
@Big Fish (Comment 99) : Don’t speak too soon. She’s a Kiwi. 😛
Sharks aren’t in the game anymore…
@Loosehead (Comment 104) : The only reason he’s still on the Sharks books is probably to prevent WP from recruiting him
@klempie (Comment 105) : Mail order bride?? 😉
Griquas 38 – 23 leopards
FULL TIME
@JarsonX (Comment 108) : mlm
Sharks look a little clueless with ball in hand 🙁
@KSA Shark © (Comment 109) : 😎
terblanche FFS!
Fred and Herbst are on
@klempie (Comment 110) : ❓
@Original Pierre (Comment 83) : He’s better than Stefan!
@JarsonX (Comment 115) : Dis ‘n paar kneukels gevolg deur ‘n middel vinger gevolg deur nog ‘n paar kneukels. 😈
Province in front
Sharks 7 – 10 Province
61 mins
PK
Sharks 7 – 10 WP
60min
Plum…what are you thinking 👿
dam, we gonna need sum french magic
come now boys
Sharks haven’t lost at home in the CC in 2 years!
@klempie (Comment 117) : I suck at sign language 😆
Nice hands Marius
OK so if the Sharks lose here, the Lions have the top spot, but a win will make the last match in Durban very interesting
Come on Sharks!!!!!
Yet again this performance is bordering on Pathetic!
@Mutley (Comment 126) : No it won’t. Province aren’t going to beat the Lions at Ellis Park.
Come on Sharks!!!!!!!!!!!!
@klempie
Yes but it would be the Sharks on 4 points behind the Lions going into the Durban match
🙄 😕
Actualy less, the Sharks have the Leopards next week and should get 5 points
@Mutley (Comment 131) : Shit you’re right. Sorry man.
Can the Sharks not stay on their feet at the breakdown?
Our skills are down the toilet.
Mcleod’s decision-making and speed of pass has been poor today. Of course, not helped by our poor ruck technique.
Penalty Sharks. Fred will pop it over the bar.
nice intercept
Sharks 10 – 10 Province
70 mins
Sharks 10 – 10 WP
70min
@Big Fish (Comment 136) : Is that what they are supposed to be doing? I thought they were arriving there and just flopping over.
@lostfish (Comment 141) : Cheeky!
WTF Herbst!!!!!!!!!!!
@klempie (Comment 142) : Always…it seems every time I have managed to watch this game we are giving away a penalty for the guys going off their feet.
Wasn’t that holding on KSA? 😐
Sharks have to watch their discipline now
@klempie (Comment 145) : Surely it was!
@klempie (Comment 145) : They’ve, both sides, been holding on all game IMO.
77 mins. Sharks scrum 10m out from their own line.
I hope that was a knock but I think it is a try.
Fuck!!! Fred you idiot!!
Try by WP
Try awarded. Mark Lawrence not so sure 🙂
Ja well to sub Adi was a mistake…
Sharks have the ball from the KO
Conversion missed
Sharks 10 – 15 WP
78min
Penalty. Time for a lineout.
Have we pulled out of the Currie cup yet?
Daniels in the corner and Freddie to convert
The Sharks have a lineout 10m out
Sharks mauling it!!
Sharks take the LO from the PK and maul it, Have PK advantage
Siren has gone. Sharks with the ball
82min Sharks 12 phases inside the WP 22.
16 phases
PHEW!!! Someone kicked a stupid chip over the back but we had penalty advantage
18 Phases 83min and Michalak chips, knowing we have a PK coming.
PROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVIIIIIIIINCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
u/16!!!!!!!
Or not after 83mins
Well done WP.
What I have to say regarding Plumtree and our “senior” players is best left unsaid – so no comment there.
Province win
To put things into perspective :
3 Weeks ago Plum congratulated the Lions and conceded that we won`t defend the cup.
This week in the crunch game against wp he opts to select Bosman at 10 when everyone knows Michalak won the game for us at Newlands.
Plum needs to go now, along with our useless mid-field!
Sharks knock it on and WP get it and Kolisi clears into touch
FULL TIME
Sharks 10 – 15 WP
going to be an interesting week indeed.
It completely defies logic but the Sharks are getting worse and worse as the season goes on.
PROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVIIIIIIIIIIIIINCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
U/16
Take a bow WP boys.
Away from home against the defending champs with a bunch of kids.
@McLovin (Comment 175) : well done… great win
shit that sux, good effort tho
😆 😆 😆
@McLovin (Comment 175) : Shhhhhh 😛
We support a KAK team!
Who the hell went and made Kevin Putt the Sharks Headcoach again? 👿
@robdylan (Comment 176) : Completely unexpected. 😎
Still only 4th on the log.
Could easily end in tears still. 😐
Go Leopards!!!
Go Lions!!!
@McLovin (Comment 175) : u/16. 😆
Well Done WP Fans.
I’m off.
Wine’s not gonna drink itself.
Have a good evening gents & ladies. 🙂
Next heading …sorry sharks sink ,belly up 🙄
Heavily frustrated
“The wheels have come off”, said it too many times, these guys are not well coached. Time for heads to roll amongst the coaching stuff. Teams that can defend will always beat us. Without individuals such as JPP, Bismarck, Lambie and Alberts we are sh!t. We can’t even get our buying right. What does MJ bring to the table. Forget winning the CC this year. We don’t have the brains and the pride.
Why donÞ we use our wing in the last movement..something is definately wrong within the team..
@Ben (Comment 180) : 100% kak I tell you.
@GreatSharksays (Comment 188) : Nor Super Rugby next year.
Stupider rugby is difficult to comprehend. If anyone noticed a game plan could you please post it here, because I seemed to have missed it.
Our only hope to defend the Currie Cup is if the Aussies do us a favour and we get our Boks back and even then I wouldn´t be too confident having seen what they´re `producing`.
I shouldn´t have wasted my time by switching back from Bath vs Leister. Excellent quality rugby actually watched by a live audience,as opposed to the embarrassing ´crowd´at Kings Park.
Pathetic all round.
Well done Province! Shame on you Sharks!
All I can say is…DUMBTREE !!! 👿
Set piece a mess,what a disgrace.
Our guys are not fit, a few were walking in the last 10 mins.
Third consecutive weekend I could not for a variety of reasons watch the Sharks.
Third consecutive weekend where, by the sounds of, I can be grateful not to have watched the Sharks.
It’s a sad state for Sharks rugby to be in… 🙁
Somewhere I said Stefan was not the problem. I was wrong. 😳
Experienced, cool heads are necessary, yes, but only to cool down hotheaded, over eager play when it is required.
Experienced cool heads turned to casualness, indifference, is another matter. As one gets a player who can breath fire into a team, this attitude unfortunately also rubs off.
With it the ( false ) believe that you can just open the taps and turn on intensity and there you find the Sharks.
That is not all. They are a confused bunch right now, being told to play direct rugby, but as a reporter on this site pointed out, they do not pick the team for that.
Then playing ( trying rather ) direct, you incorporate the new Sonny Bill offload from people just not adept to it all the time and once again you have found the Sharks.
I have not heard Plums after match speech, but boy, he is directly responsible for this sad situation.
@GreatSharksays (Comment 196) : probably not unfit at all
This is a game where we needed keegs to step up and take controll of things ,didnt. Skeate and Coetzee the only semi decent players .
@Talent (Comment 199) : Skeate is playing well. Coetzee is the business.
I didn´t want to put the boot in any further, but having for all intents and purposes been beaten by little boys, a big fat WTF to the `senior` players.
Please, someone put the old cows and their herder out to pasture to save us from more embarrassment in the future.
Focker out.
sharks were unlucky. Great subs by a great coach. what a brilliant advert for the game, cant wait for the super 15 to kick some ass.
@rhineshark (Comment 201) : We sit with a very real problem here in that players have contracts for wewiew 😯 much money and cannot be dropped, it would be financial suicide and so forth.
I am ( STILL ) pleading for an unperformance clause for both players and coaches and administrators and everyone in their street. They should be fined to the very same tune that the Bokke and management get rewarded with bonuses for performance in the WC. For a + there should be an equal -.
They are stealing 😈 our money 😯 We are shouting for a bunch of thieves!
Flag a dead horse!!!
To Rob. Every thread dies at some point ( which is more or less when I join it 😆 😎 ), yet there are almost always some remark that deserves some more attention. ( Like this one )
So why not create a ‘dead horse’ thread and a reply function that would take a comment from the dead thread to the dead horse thread? 💡 🙄
