The injury concern to Cheetahs prop Coenie Oosthuizen that we reported yesterday has resulted in the worst-possible outcome for the central union, with the burly prop ruled out of action for up to four months.
Scans yesterday revealed that Oosthuizen will require surgery to correct a neck injury sustained against the Lions, thus ensuring that he plays no more rugby this season. Veteran tight head WP Nel is expected to take over from Oosthuizen in the Cheetahs engine room, with the latter now expected to return during the early stages of next year’s Super Rugby tournament. Having used this season’s Currie Cup to show that he can effectively be used on the right hand side of the scrum, Oosthuizen will be keen to come back fit and fighting next year in order to secure a Bok spot as backup to Jannie du Plessis in a troublesome position for the national team.
In other Cheetahs injury news, it appears that flyhalf Johan Goosen’s concussion will keep him out of the Cheetahs team to face the Pumas on Friday, with Sias Ebersohn set to make the trip to Witbank in his stead.

This could work out well for the Lions . . .
Who cares about the lions?
