The Bulls face a few selection posers for their clash against Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday, with some players returning from injury and dealiong with the call-up to New Zealand for Zane Kirchner.
Akona Ndungane and Deon Stegmann are both back from injuries and will be available for selection, with Stegmann back after missing seven weeks with a fractured cheekbone.
With Zane Kirchner no longer available for the Bulls, and Jurgen Visser hurting himself against the Pumas last weekend, the Bulls might be forced to play Gerhard van den Heever or even Akona Ndungane at fullback.
Coach Pine Pienaar has made it clear that he will consider van den Heever at fullback, as he has played in that position in both Super Rugby and Currie Cup before.
The Bulls need to take a win from Kimberley if they are to have any chance of making the top four and playing in the semi finals in two weeks time.

I still believe that van der Heever has an Israel Dagg quality to him and should be developed into a fullback. Sort out his defence and he’s already way ahead of Zane Kirchner in my opinion.
I don’t see the Bulls losing this one. Once they get a sniff they go all out.
@vanmartin (Comment 1) :
Can’t say I like either of the two.. to be honest..
@vanmartin (Comment 1) : bwahahahahahahahahahaha this is the MOST prepostrerous statement i’ve ever read on sharksworld! π π
@Megatron (Comment 4) : and that, my friend, takes some doing
@Megatron (Comment 4) :
Im glad Im not the only one who thinks that..
@JarsonX (Comment 2) : “I still believe that van der Heever has an Israel Dagg quality to him” chortle tl tl tl
@Megatron (Comment 7) : more like Israel Nagg π
@Megatron (Comment 4) @Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : To each their own but I stand by my statement. I think this kid has a ton of potential and a temperament similar to Francois Hougaard. He hasn’t had a great 2011 season but their have been glimpses of the potential he showed in 2010.
Keep an eye on him. If he’s managed a little better by the Bulls he’s one for the future.
@vanmartin (Comment 9) : ag mate, don’t bother…Hurdles is no frankie hougaard, he is KAK on defence, has no work-rate to speak of.
I’m no buLl fan, but when I hear his name I remember the S15 game in durbs early this year..
Zane was injured and v Heerden played FB.. He ran circles around us that day..
@Franshark (Comment 11) :
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes… π
@Megatron (Comment 10) : You’re right of course. I should have remembered that players cannot be developed through-out their career. π
If my views bother you, you’re welcome to skip them. I often extend you the same courtesy. π
@vanmartin (Comment 13) :
Your comparison reminded me of when the SA media referred to Dean Hall as the white Jonah Lomu!! π
Or Bolla Conradie as the new George Gregan!!
@wpw (Comment 14) : The difference being that Israel Dagg has only recently become the incumbent in his position in the All Blacks team. I wouldn’t put him in the same company as Lomu and Gregan just yet. π
He has the potential though but we’ll have to see how it goes in years to come…
@vanmartin (Comment 13) : “bother me” hehehe you’re a cad mate, laughable! π
really now, you see an izzy dagg in Hurdles? hehehehe
@wpw (Comment 14) :
Hahahahaha!!
Prize winning blogging that..
@Megatron (Comment 16) : Doth the lady protest too much?
Go read my first comment again. I did not claim that van der Heever is the South African version of Dagg. There’s no use in making direct comparisons like that. I do however see a Dagg-like quality in van der Heever. They’ve both been devastating in their line-breaking ability on the counter-attack at Super Rugby level. van der Heever not so much in 2011 but as I said, we saw glimpses of it.
@vanmartin (Comment 18) : you’re the one straining to make a point, so if anyone “doth protesteth too much” ahem look in the mirror china π
@vanmartin (Comment 18) :
What next, you gonna say Basson has Kurtley Beale qualities in him..
@wpw (Comment 12) : π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) :
Or Marcell Coetzee is the next Andre Venter!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) : Are you saying Basson has the potential to be a little tubby? π
@wpw (Comment 22) : Andre Venter will never be that good.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 23) :
Hahahaha!!
And Marius Joubert is Brad Barritt’s idol..
@Megatron (Comment 19) : Admit it! I got under your skin, didn’t I?
Up until a few moments ago I always pictured you as a shiny little robot sent by future Keo to try and curb Sharksworld’s meteoric rise. π
@wpw (Comment 22) :
And Duane Vermeulen is the naxt Gary Teichman??
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 27) :
Or is it Nick Koster?
And Tiger Bax is the next…..?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 25) :

@Richard Ferguson (Comment 27) :
Vermeulen is the only guy I’ve ever come across with highlights in his hair who fancies himself as an enforcer. π³ Metrosexual Enforcers. What is the world becoming?
@Salmonoid (Comment 29) : Varsity cup star?
@vanmartin (Comment 26) : under my skin? π keep playing with yourself china…
do you also think dustin jinka has a joost vd westhuizen quality to him too?
π
Earl Rose is the Tiger Woods of Rugby
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) : I’m sorry but Basson’s facial hair could never compare to Beale’s.
I do however suspect that Lambie is Michael Cera’s doppelganger.
@Greg (Comment 33) :
John Plumtree is the new Kitch Christie!! π π
@vanmartin (Comment 34) :
I can see the Lambie – Cera connection..
@Megatron (Comment 32) : you avoiding the Cheetahs thread? π
Alister Coetzee is the new Pdivvy.
Really guys? π Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, no matter how wrong it may be π
@Megatron (Comment 32) : I’ll be sure to let you know when I’ve seen a little more of Jinka’s play. π
@wpw (Comment 35) : Actually Plummo is the new Kevin Putt πΏ
@Salmonoid (Comment 38) :
All he needs is a proper snor..
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 37) : goodness me. you’re so desperate π
Francois Hougaardt actually reminds me of Pre-2008 Habana.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 42) : and to win something. π
@wpw (Comment 35) :
@JarsonX (Comment 41) :
That’s more like it, nobody could be the new Kitch Christie
@vanmartin (Comment 1) : Agree with you van den heever has the potential to develop into a classy full back.
If i can remember he played full back in the craven week for the bulls under 18’s.
Isn’t it funny that the coaches who have taken us to World Cup and Tri Nations glory never coached a Currie Cup team?
@Muzi (Comment 47) :
I was waiting for you to arrive..
@Megatron (Comment 43) : π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 49) :
hehe well its a blue bulls thread
@Salmonoid (Comment 45) :
I’ll raise you two Neo Series trophies!! π π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 48) : Kitch Christie never coached a Currie Cup side??????
GVH,looks like a nut case,I do not know if he has the brains to become a classy player in any position.He is average imo
@Greg (Comment 53) :
Damn.. caught out.. hahaha
I was thinking Jake White and Peter de Villiers, not 1995.. apologies..
@Honey Badger (Comment 54) : bro why are you attacking shadow π₯ he is not a bad player he played a great game against the sharks in the super 15 at full back.
@Muzi (Comment 56) :
That was the last good game he had..
π₯ Jurgen Visser sadly broke his nose i thought they would aleast consider little blommetjies or the talented Ulrich Beyers in nthe match 22.
Feel sorry for that wp under 21 full back Heinrich Steyl a great player in the making i doubt he will fully recover again and be the same player again.
@Muzi (Comment 56) : He is just one of those guys that is suppose to make it but is not going to,imo
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 57) : He made such a massive difference he gave us alot of pace and game breaking abilities something bulls full backs lack.
Zane Kirchner is solid but van den heever in my honest opinion can be great full back he has the size..pace…and dancing shoes :mrgreen:.
I hope our beloved Pine Pienaar can ge the best out of him.
@Muzi (Comment 58) : Yeah, and that was Steyl’s first CC game, wasn’t it? I remember reading a Conrad Jantjes interview after he had broken his leg. He mentioned something along the lines of the psychological damage outweighing the physical damage.
Do the Capetonians have a good “kop doktor” on staff?
@wpw (Comment 52) : I forget, and then there is also the one against Boland.
@Honey Badger (Comment 59) : Na dude i have faith in shadow i know he can make it he sooo talented i watched the kid at affies he can jol.
I hope he can prove his doubters wrong he just has to work hard he can get there.
@Honey Badger (Comment 54) : π hahahaha well said
@vanmartin (Comment 61) : Heinrich Steyl was on the verge of becoming the next big thing at full back.
The wp coaches rated him as the best wp under 21 prospect since sadie.
He has incredible speed and dancing shoes
like gouws prisloo he can break a line with such ease.
Two broken legs π₯ that is unlucky.
You know me and beet were following steyl this year i really rated the kid he can jol.
I doubt he can recover.
@vanmartin (Comment 9) : There is this amazingly talented kid coming out of Grey College this season – Jan Serfontein. Altho he’s a centre by trade I suggested that the Bulls should consider him for the no.15 jersey (sort of like Taute was moved there and where the likes of Jaque Fourie and Wynand Venter started out). This position is a weak area at the Bulls right now.
And yes he was from the Eastern Cape originally, so no need for you-know-who-you-are to use the P-word around here.
@Muzi (Comment 65) : That was really sad news about Steyl.
@Muzi (Comment 65) : Well Muzi. You, me and Megatron have something in common. We all like Stegmann.
I’m happy to see him back
@beet (Comment 66) : π³
@Muzi (Comment 65) : You sure it’s two broken legs? I thought it was two broken bones in one leg but I could have misread.
@beet (Comment 66) : I’ve heard about him but haven’t had the opportunity to see him play yet. I’ll keep an eye out.
@beet (Comment 66) : Feel bad for steyl i doubt he will have that pace again.
Jan Serfontein can jol alright i think he will play senior rugby next year.
Dries Swanepoel is like William Small Smith they are great players in the making but they need to develop first.
Venter..Jordaan and Serfontein can easily make the step up to senior rugby.
@beet (Comment 68) : bwahahahahahaa go SteggieS!!!!!!!!!!! π
@Muzi (Comment 60) :
He does look like he will fit into a pair of dancing shoes, but not the kind you are talking about.. π
@Megatron @beet (Comment 68) :Everybody blamed steggman in the tri-nations afte the boks lost their matches not cool. πΏ
@vanmartin (Comment 70) :
It’s two broken bones in the same leg..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 73) : hahaha π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 75) : @vanmartin (Comment 61) : Thanks wow dude i heard the poor guy is out for 9 months.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 75) : Then there’s both hope and probably a long rehabilitation for the poor guy
@Megatron (Comment 72) : steggman is the only player that can outclass brussouw they know each other very well.
@Muzi (Comment 79) :
Slegmann outclassing Brussow?
Maybe by playing the fool, but surely not on a rugby field!!
@vanmartin (Comment 78) : Eish na i have a feeling he will become like conrad.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 80) : He can everytime the bulls and cheetahs play each other steggies wins the battle in the breakdowns he did last year in bloem.
@Muzi (Comment 82) :
Brussow must have been just back from injury or playing with an injury..
I cannot even think about that happening.. Its like Tom actually catching Jerry and eating him.. Just wrong!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 83) :’
Bulls Tean against the griquas:
Gerhard van den Heever, Akona Ndungane, Wynand Olivier, Francois Venter, Bjorn Basson, Jano Vermaak, CJ Stander, Jacques Potgieter, Deon Stegmann, JuandrΓ© Kruger, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Gary Botha (k), Dean Greyling.
Willie Wepener, Frik Kirsten, Gerrit-Jan van Velze, Arno Botha, Warwick Tecklenburg, Dustin Jinka, Francois Brummer.
@Muzi (Comment 79) : I think this might be the one and only time in SW history that Stegmann has more fans than haters gathered on 1 thread. π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 83) :
Eish you guys do not like steggman hey.
@Muzi (Comment 84) :
Not sure that dropping Warwick for Slegmann is such a great idea..
Can’t he play on the other side of the scrum ahead of Potgieter?
@beet (Comment 85) : π Beet he is a classy player its just that steggman never listens to the ref.
When the ref says los die bal los die bal steggmans gives away silly penalties. π
@beet (Comment 85) :
This is not happening..
I am calling in reinforcements..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 87) :Slegmann aaah π₯ is that what steggman is called now.
Ag richard i will remember that πΏ
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 89) :
My grannie can fetch better than Slegmann!! π
@Muzi (Comment 82) : I don’t think we’re developing enough Brussow/Stegmann/Pocock type opensider ground players in SA rugby. Marnus Schoeman is class. We have a standout at u21 level this season – Cloete but he’s too small for the big times. If I were WP, I’d follow on what Dawie Theron did with Nizaam and convert him into a dedicated ground player.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 89) : If you have a bok cap at loftus you are automatically chosen ahead of a young player.
We have a pecking order.
@Pokkel (Comment 91) : Great. Here comes the first of the Northern Natal regiment. We are doomed
@Pokkel (Comment 91) :
And reinforcements have arrived!!
@Pokkel (Comment 91) : aaah what the hell dude its steggman π
@Muzi (Comment 93) :
That sounds pretty familiar to a Shark supporter..
@Pokkel (Comment 91) :
Slegmann cannot even fetch the post..
@beet (Comment 92) : How brilliant is wiaan liebenberg on the ground he is making a name for himself in the under 21 side.
@beet (Comment 92) :
Schoeman, is that the Bulls player who is on loan with Griquas?
Why do the sharks supporters hate steggman so much π₯ and all these steggman jokes they make me πΏ
@Muzi (Comment 96) : Sorry Muzi….I can’t spell so well! π
@Pokkel (Comment 102) :
On Sharksworld we are not allowed to be strict on spelling, so Slegmann it is.. π
@Muzi (Comment 101) :
Don’t worry Muzi. I hate Gary Botha and Derrick Kuun more. So Steggman is not ALL that bad. π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 100) : Marnus Schoeman has signed a 1 year deal for the griquas. π₯
A big blow in fact a huge loss our beloved junior bulls scout and junior contractor xander told me on twitter they offered tecklenburg a senior contract instead of schoeman. πΏ
@Muzi (Comment 105) :
Oh no.. one of the beloved golden Bulls have escaped..
Good signing for Griquas in that case..
You sharkies are something else ag. π
@Pokkel (Comment 104) :
Don’t even get my started on Gary ‘the lip’ Botha..
@Muzi (Comment 107) :
All in good spirit mate! π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 108) :
Or Derick ‘punch in the groin’ Kuun..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 106) : Mr Ferguson i am still disappointed with the bulls for letting schoeman leave it hurts dude π₯
@Muzi (Comment 107) :
I must give you credit.. You are a brave man to declare you Stegmann love on this forum..
But as Pokkel says, all good fun..
@Pokkel (Comment 109) : ja ja all good mate.
But still sleggman not kewl
@Muzi (Comment 111) :
So next time your beloved Bulls sign a properly talented Natal junior, will you come rubbing it in?
See what I’m doing here….
πΏ “You are a brave man to declare you Stegmann love on this forum.”
Thanks bro π₯
Lets add Pierre Spies to that line as well.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 114) : Ok ok i must admit i have a tendency of over hyping bulls junior players and gloating about our next great signings.
@Muzi (Comment 115) :
Do you see any fault in a Bulls loose forward?
@Muzi (Comment 116) :
So when are you signing Johan Goosen?
Or wait, let me guess, you already have the player who is BETTER than him, and can kick a 75m drop goal.. in the rain!!
@Muzi (Comment 99) : When I last watched him he was blindside and that Davis guy was playing openside. Have they changed things around.
What surprised me the most when I saw Wiaan for the Bulls u19 at Kingspark, is how tall he is. I didn’t realise that. He is actually about 1.90m. At Craven Week and for SA HP he looked much shorter.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 118) : Goosen turned us down twice dude not 1 once twice πΏ
Ok ok ok brummer has failed happy now π₯
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 114) : Some of our best u18 are heading that way in 2012 – Moolman, Horn and Taylor.
@Muzi (Comment 120) :
How dare he say no to the blou.. Sies!!
@beet (Comment 121) :
That is seriously disappointing..
But I suppose the Sharks dont really have a great record in bringing through youngsters..
They will all be back when they hit their thirties..
@beet (Comment 119) : Yea i thought he was shorter than 1.90m.
But i am not complaining he is having a great year.
Now we just have to promote Nardus van der walt who looks like he has put on an extra 6 kilograms.
Beet he looks huge
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 122) : No one says no to die blou bulle πΏ Twice is enough.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 117) : I might have mentioned this before but young Muzi has piped down a bit. When Theron was doing the trials thing for u20 JWC, Muzi suggested that best Sharks juniors like Kleynhans and Coetzee were maybe good enough to be on the Bulls bench
@Muzi (Comment 124) : How is Nardus playing. I love his speed. He’s a bit like Arno with that line breaking pace around the fringe of rucks. Also I see Ardendorf has been made into a no.6 since Wiaan got promoted.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 123) : We nearly got stefan ungerer πΏ but hans scriba said “enough is enough”.
Also beet kept on meeting the guy like every fixture π
@beet (Comment 126) : Kleinhans and Coetzee made me eat some groot humble pie
i am sure you are happy hey beet.
@beet (Comment 126) :
Nah man, Im just ragging a bit..
Its good to know what is happening with all the junior talent in this country..
Keep it up!
@beet (Comment 127) : Yea shaun Adendorff is rattling a few feathers he is keeping cloete wessels and the big malherbe van wyk on the bench great talent!
Nardus started the year very slowly he picked up an ijnury but now he is looking the beez neez.
Beet i spoke to a sharks scout byrandt stander is going to the bulls. π
@Muzi (Comment 128) :
Hans Scriba is the devil’s assistant in my eyes.. With the devil being Rudolph
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 130) : Did you see the list of the bulls contracted under 19s next year ?
@Muzi (Comment 133) : Please don’t depress me with that list again. If I see the names of those 4 locks next to each other again, I’ll cry.
Funny how I can stomach the Serfontein / Swanepoel thing but I can’t handle the lock issue.
@Muzi (Comment 133) :
@beet (Comment 134) :
I havent seen it, but you can really keep it to yourself..
Thanx though..
@Muzi (Comment 131) : He’s a good player that Brynard.
@beet (Comment 136) :
Is that why he spends so much time on the bench?
@beet (Comment 134) : You can stomach the VIP centre combo because you have Tyler Fisher! π
Yea those great locks dennis visser…du preez….jacques du plessis and irne herbst.
Great Signing π s wouldn’t you say beeto.
@beet (Comment 136) : Na i was just talking rubbish stander is a machine another explosive young talented flank!
Tjo it takes like 3 guys to stop stander π―
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 137) : Richard, I can’t understand that. His run on performances and his cameos suggest that he should have got more starts. He’s a workaholic and knows how to soften up an oppo D. He didn’t seem to be a let down on defence himself. So I’m puzzled.
At the same time the Sharks have to develop and place emphasis on long term prospects. Jafta, Kleynhans and Mthembu will all most likely receive or already have contract extensions . Teru will have to make a big career decision at the end of the Vodacom Cup imho. Last year I thought he would be the star of u21 rugga. It hasn’t turned out that way. He will have to up his game in the months to come. Alternatively he might see an oppo for game time at a higher level elsewhere. Brynard would be good to keep around for the Vodacom Cup and I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays many more games at a smaller Union in the future.
Come On Griquas !!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 110) : i don’t think i’ve ever not liked πΏ a player more than i disliked derrick kuun, that guy is lazy vuilgat!
Wtf? Bulls injury update article generating 143 comments??? π―
@Ben (Comment 143) : read the 1st comment and you’ll know why π π
@Megatron (Comment 144) : Pretty funny! π
@Megatron (Comment 142) : I do believe that just this once, we have the unique situation where there is consensus between Megatron and evey single Sharks supporter on ! π
@Culling Song (Comment 146) : π
