Allister Coetzee named his team to take on the table topping Lions at the Coke Tin on Saturday afternoon at five minutes past five!

Conrad Jantjes returns to the side in place of the unfortunate Heinrich Steyl who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg. In news that is sure to boost the Cape side’s goal kicking Demetri Catrakillis replaces the out-of-form ‘Bulls bound’ Lionel Cronje who has been dropped from the squad completely.

Dewaldt Duvenage has been bracketed with Nic Groom just in case the diminutive scrumhalf does not recover from the ankle knock he took against the Sharks. Nick Koster returns at the back of the scrum with Nizaam Carr dropping down to the bench.

Coetzee has opted for a 5/2 split on the bench with Hilton Lobberts returning from a lay-off and forwards Deon Fourie, Frans Malherbe, Pieter Louw and Nizaam Carr all included along with backs Groom/ Schreuder and Johann Sadie. As a result Tertius Daniller falls out of the match 22.

DHL Western Province:

Jantjes, Poolman, Klaasen, Brache, JJ, Catrakillis, Duvenage (Groom), Koster, Kolisi, Fenton-Wells, Steenkamp, Fondse, Harris, Liebenberg, Kritzinger

Bench – Fourie, Malherbe, Lobberts, Carr, Louw, Groom (Schreuder), Sadie

  • I am 100% sure lionel cronje is gone allister coetzee was not a big fan of the guy.

Last weekend lione made a stupid mistake in a crucial time of the match i saw allister throw a tentrum  and his hands went up in the air.

Hell even some of the wp players gave cronje k..k

I am sure lionel is happy is he leaving.

Dude, he has been VERY poor. Do you blame them??

And just as an aside… we don’t have all the facts on the table… what if Lionel is not a team player?? or has an attitude problem??

  • @Muzi (Comment 2) : Sorry man, I could find where you posted the Piet Lindeque comment and I wanted to get this off my chest:

Lindeque has time on his side and often players for some unexplainable reason look better at pro level than they do in the juniors. But right now the issues I have is that Piet is just a basic straight line runner and when Heimar puts him in space, the blinkers tend to go on. I was hoping to see more of the ball player that came out of Grey Bloem. I was over the moon when Piet signed for the Sharks and told a lot of people to look out for him in a few years after 2009 so I hope he comes good.
On Sat he was up against JP du Plessis. JP in typical WP centre style just looked like the better trained player. He had good lateral movement, a nice elusive jinx, an eye for a gap, peripheral vision and he was always weighing up the offload option before and after getting thru a hole. It’s not good to rate a guy based on one performance but for me he ticked a lot of boxes vs Sharks u21.
I’d like to see Piet work on developing more of these skills in the next 12 months. I’m rooting for him tho.

  • @JarsonX (Comment 16) : Not too worry, we will give province 2 bonus points, then all that needs to happen next week is province beat pumas by more than bulls beat leopards, you guys can play cheetahs in the first semi

  • Just a few words on the WP youngsters…Lionel Cronje has lost the plot so im sure WP were glad to unload him to the Bulls-mayb they will teach him to kick and then who knows. Johan Sadie is quality- u can tell by the time he has on the ball and he is always scanning the field looking for the mismatch or little gap to exploit-Bulls please dont ruin him! This Klaasen boy looks like a good prospect-runs hard and straight and can catch…rather him than Whithead…hint hint Stauli! Watching the u21s id love to see how Etzebeth, the large lock, goes at senior level as he looks big and mobile!

  • If Province lose their fullback during the match, centre Marcel Brache will be moved to 15, and in the event of a flyhalf injury, Conrad Jantjes will take over in the pivot position. “I decided to go without Lionel (CronjΓ©) this week because he didn’t impress against the Sharks last week, and since we have five forwards on the bench, there wasn’t place for him,” said Coetzee.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 19) : The Sharks need to have a look at JP du PlEssis: he has no contract with province and his fathers lions links may see him go north(very sad). Claasen never(bang gat Claasen) no option…he is a Vics player(Maties). Same with van der Spay. But if we look at the Future and what we need. We need to get game breakers…du Plessis can create opportunity, same with Paul Jordaan and Johan Goosen. Also Jan Serfontein(springbok!!) We have Marcel, jordaan, Super Pat. And I rate young our youngsters we just need toi expose them to top flight ragga! And I agree some youngsters react better to a bigger stage( 2 of these that come to mind is Schalk Burger and Rob Diack) another one was johan sadie.
