Three more years of Deysel magic

Sharksworld has reliably learned that rock-solid flanker Jean Deysel has recently put his name to a new deal, which will see him play for the Sharks for another three years.

Deysel, who first made a name for himself back in the 2008 season, following a move from the Lions, has proved an invaluable member of the Sharks pack, so often ensuring the go-forward ball without which the team struggles to dominate. Having just turned 26 this year, the likeable loose forward is in his prime and our information is that the Blue Bulls and Western Province were both keen to secure his signature.

Deysel remains true to the black and white, though and Sharks fans everywhere will breathe a sigh of relief to know that “Wolla” will be playing for us, rather than against, up until October 2014 at the earliest.

  • Good stuff! Nothing better then when a side holds onto their quality players!

  • Now if only he could learn to run from depth. Perhaps Ashley Johnson could give him some advice?

Still an awesome asset for the Sharks.

  • @Muzi (Comment 7) : you’ve just got Pottie… why not use him before trying to buy someone else?

  • @Muzi (Comment 7) :

Most of these guys are older then you my man!

Anyway, like I said, the Bulls need to stop signing all the oppositions players to try weaken them. Not in the interests of SA rugby.

  • I love everything about Wolla apart from his medical bills… 🙂

Man, I wonder if the Sharks had to offer him a lower salary to make up for the Discovery premiums… they must be astronomical

  • Great news. Deysel one of my favourite players. 😎

Wish Sharks could get some of Frans Steyn magic back too. 😎 How awesome it would be if we could sign Fransie again. Think his contract is over next June with Metro.

  • Great news ,any contracts in the balance ? Need; Alberts ,Bismarc ,Jannie ,Beast and Kankowski wraped up so heavy in contracts …if any other team signs one of these players I will flip my lid

  • Deysel is Awesome; and i feel 4 could become his permanent position. His offload game has improved soo much, he bouncing off defenders once again, and i think the power he adds to the scrum from 4 is huge.
Let’s face it if Deysel can’t get any faster i would def. use him at 4, yes he is not the best lineout option; but he offers so much more than what most 4 can, offloads, breaks tackles and is great at stealing ball. Aslong as The Sharks maintain a looseforward blend like the one named for this weekend it will make up for the lack of a true lineout option at 4. Very happy with the Pack named BTW; There the balnce and mix of players and attributes is perfect for Sharks rugby…I Luv it!!!

  • @Talent (Comment 14) : Agree, we need to tie up all these guys for as long as possible. How good has Skeate been…never seen Hargreaves play that well to be honest. Skeate work in the air and his workrate has been great, i very chuffed with how he has been going. Is he Sharks Vice Captain? If not, he should be, IMO.

  • Deysel is another one of our players who has to put his own personal goals/desires on hold to accommodate the team’s need. His attitude is good outstanding tho. I think he’s score a perfect 10 for team spirit. I wonder what his leadership qualities are like. Guys with his kind of heart generally make inspirational leaders.

  • @JJR (Comment 16) : Ive always liked Deysel ,he could slot into Boks anytime and maybe these next 3 years are his opportunity. The next bok 7/8 Burger/Alberts/Deysel 8.Kanko/Alberts/Deysel- I like Deysel at 8 .

@beet (Comment 17) : Rumour has it he is eyeing a captaincy position which I think is awesome

  • @Talent (Comment 18) : If he is superugby captain i will jump up and down for Joy!! He has been my favourite Shark since he made his debut for us…i mean who doesn’t love seeing a guy sit on his ass everytime he comes in contact with Deysel, and the way he just rips the ball out of players arms with ease is great to watch. If Deysel could only get a little bit more explosive off the mark he would be insane…so as i said maybe 4 suits him now; maybe some speed training in off season could work well for him. It worked quite well For Marius and Ndungane. Marius is soo much more explosive only from a two week conditioning block. Sharks Trainers and conditioning coaches are sick!!

  • @JJR (Comment 19) : The absolute best in the country im sure !! Like Plumtree said its a matter of having your best players on the field(he can apply that forward thinking logic to the forwards …but not the backs)

Deysel would be a good captain but we will never replace John Smit or even Steff T . If andries Strauss had steyd on at the sharks he would have been an apt candidate too. My concern is you dont want to make your enforcers captains ,you want them flooring players not always speaking to the ref and so on.

  • This has made my day. I rate deysel so highly. Before he came along no sharks player could steal/rip and effect turnovers on regular basis, thats what really impressed me about him, not the bashing it up that he is famous for. My favourite and in my opinion the best and most important sharks player by far.
