Former Sharks scrumhalf, Rory “Rocket” Kockott, has seen his contract with French club side Castres extended, after some impressive play in recent weeks.
The enigmatic Kockott, who joined the Sharks from the Lions in 2007 went on to establish himself as a dependable match winner – eclipsing Ruan Pienaar as the team’s first-choice scrumhalf in 2009 – before falling out of favour with coach John Plumtree. An unhappy stint back with the Lions during this year’s Super Rugby competition was short-lived and Kockott duly jetted off to France in mid-year, initially as a medical joker until the end of October.
Kockott scored all 24 points for Castres in their recent thrashing of Top 14 champions Tolouse and on the basis of his good form, will be staying on until at least the end of the French season.

Good for him 😎
@JarsonX (Comment 1) : I’ll admit to being a little surprised… I was sure the first comment on this thread would be something about how the Sharks should never have let him leave 🙂
I agree…..good for him!
Still sound like a selfish player though. Why didn’t he let somebody else score some points. 😈
@Pokkel (Comment 3) : so I take it we don’t want Rocket back the way we want Steyn back, then?
Funny, I was always a big fan of Rory… you could back him to get those match-winning kicks over, not miss them from bang in front….
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
Rockett was great but at some stage he just tried to much on his own and was often caught in possession. The Frenchies just haven’t figured him out yet!
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
I agree Rob. At one stage he was one of the better or form scrumhalves in SA.
He also possesses that typical asshole attitude (like Claytie’s) that is needed in a scrumhalf.
I wouldn’t mind if WP signed him to be honest.
@wpw (Comment 6) : Ho$h
@wpw (Comment 6) : And the Frogs can keep him.Scrummies main duty is to pass the damned ball.He’d make a decent flyhalf i must admit.
He was pretty decent at times! Perhaps he has learnt that there are 14 other teammates on the field…good on Kocky Rory!
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 8) : I got so tired of writing about Kockott being possibly the best flyhalf in the country that I eventually just stopped 🙂
BTW, I think Wes just called you an a$$hole…. that old story about pots and kettles comes to mind 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 10) : The man is boosting my street cred, Im cool with that 😎
@robdylan (Comment 10) : Everything about the lad is a Flyhalf.
@robdylan (Comment 2) : No use crying over spilled milk 😛
@robdylan (Comment 4) : Like Ru. Remember that Super 14 game he won from the touchline against the Saders, after the added time Odd One try?
@klempie (Comment 14) : That was awesome, one of my most favourite tries ever 😎
@klempie (Comment 14) : oh ja… but remember all those kicks he missed against the Lions in the 2nd test? Ended his career as an international flyhalf in just 40 minutes of rugby.
@robdylan (Comment 10) :
FJELN!! 😕
@robdylan (Comment 16) :
‘like’
@JarsonX (Comment 15) : Mine too. Was at my mom’s place and nearly brought the place down with my celebrations. 😀
Remember rocket giving FDP a go in a few matches. He used to irritate the skin out of opposition Scrumhallves.
@klempie (Comment 19) :
How did you feel after Habana’s try in the 2007 final?? 😈
Do you guys remember this incident?? 😆 😯

Wouldn’t mind if the Lions could have him back with our current scrum half situation …
Big question is does he have Bok potential – is this a possible loss to SA? There aren’t too many SA scrum-halves at the moment making a case for the Bok jersey so it’s something I’ve been wondering about. We really need Ruan Pienaar to come back to SA and find some form again.
@Mocho (Comment 20) : Love the new avatar! So Jesus is a Bok fan. I always suspected as much… 😀
@wpw (Comment 21) : I know I will escape censure, if I tell you to STFU!!
@wpw (Comment 22) : Bitchslapped!
@vanmartin (Comment 24) : haha actually you won’t believe me, but its Pierre Spies. I was hoping that he may grow a beard so he can play more like the bearded cavemen that make such an impact in todaus rugby world.
Rocket is too individualistic. And yes, he should move to 10.
@wpw (Comment 6) :
😆
Kockett is suited to the NH where the game is slower and teams dont rely on quick ball. In SH teams want quick ball from the rucks to unleash their outside backs. Kockett did well when he first started as he used to just pass the ball and take the odd break. When he left he would make the odd pass and try himself most of the time.
@robdylan (Comment 2) : I always liked Rory.I would still play him for the sharks,maar toe moes ons hom soos n stief kind behandel of iets.
