Veteran English lock Simon Shaw is apparently close to a short-term deal that will see him cover for the injured Bakkies Botha at Toulon on France.
We reported a few weeks back that, after injuring his Achilles again at the World Cup, Toulon were said to be just a little worried that their 7-Million Euro signing might be just a bit too injury prone to justify the huge investment. The club’s bankers, cash-flush thought they may be, will hardly be jumping up and down at the prospect of having to pay another player to cover for the big Bok while he undergoes yet more rehabilitation.
Shaw, at 38, is hardly a long-term option, though meaning that they probably do still see some value in getting Bakkies fit, rather than calling time on the agreement right now.
