13 October 2011 | Tamika Sewnarain
CRICKET was the order of the day at Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead in Durban on 11 October 2011, where the KwaZulu Natal Sunfoil Dolphins Cricket Team was announced.
The launch began with a tour of the stadium, led by vice-captain and wicketkeeper, Daryn Smit. The tour included the umpires technical offices, the teams changerooms as well as the viewing area where the team sits during a game.
Jesse Chellan, CEO of KZN Cricket Union, spoke on the new sponsorship by Sunfoil, as well as the upcoming season.”A key element of this partnership is the strategic fit. Both KZN Cricket Union and the Willowton Group (Sunfoil) share the vision of making the Sunfoil Dolphins the most recognisable cricket brand in the country,” he said.
Imraan Khan, captain of the Sunfoil Dolphins, announced the team for the forthcoming season. The team is: Daryn Smit (vice-capt), Ahmed Amla, Hashim Alma, Cameron Delport, Cody Chetty, Dane Paterson, David Miller, Devon Conway, Glen Addicott, Imran Tahir, Keshav Maharaj, Loots Bosman, Khaya Zondo, Kyle Abbott, Matthew Hullet, Mthokozisi Shezi, Robbie Frylinck, Tabraiz Shamsi and Vaugh van Jaarsveld.
@Anneleen (Comment 8) : thanks, just wanred to do it now and see you helped me out,
Vaugh has been baned from playing cricket for I think 3 months,
Chris Gayle is only signed for the T20 tournament early next year and they also got Shaun Tait to help out in the T20’s

Sunfoil Dolphins squad:
Imraan Khan (Captain), Daryn Smit, Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Loots Bosman, Ahmed Amla, Kyle Abbott, Robbie Frylinck, Cameron Delport, Friedel de Wet, Keshav Maharaj, Dane Paterson, Matthew Hulett
@Franshark (Comment 10) : Why?
@Ben (Comment 13) : sometime in last season he was tested for an illegal supplement in his system 😯
@Ben (Comment 13) : results only came thru a few weeks ago…
@Franshark (Comment 14) : @Franshark (Comment 15) : 🙄
@Franshark (Comment 11) : Really don’t know why they waste their money like that. Rather use it on a proper SA player and sign him on long term.
These international players create some excitement with no long term positives.
@Franshark (Comment 9) : Pleasure, thanks for your update…from Sharks to Dolphins…go Dolphins!
The first game on the tournament starting in 15 min time, hope you all made picks 😉
@Franshark (Comment 19) : Yip! Let the games begin…good luck to all the players! Enjoy yourselves!

Hey Franshark.
Forgive me coz I don’t really follow cricket.
Do we have any potential world class test and/or ODI players coming thru the ranks that haven’t made it into the Proteas yet.
I watched the ODI at Kingsmead the other day and it occurred to me that Kallis and Smith are getting pretty old and will probably have to be permanently replaced in the next few years.
What do you think of Miller and Faf?
How do you rate our chances in the tests vs Aus and why only 2 tests? Surely when Aus are here we should aim for 5 tests?
@beet (Comment 27) : I’ll start with the last one first, for some reason they said that both countries schedule is to tight that more test could not be fit in. I actually thought that they could have less time inbetween the ODI’s to accommodate at least one more test.
@beet (Comment 27) : Miller reminds me of Kallis when he started off. He looks so calm and collected but at this stage not getting the runs needed to secure his place. hopefully it will come together sooner rather that later. Faf is also looking good, his fielding is of a very high standard and that always is a good positive for a team. Kallis is still playing well, but I can’t say the same for Smith, hi is really struggling and my opinion is that he needs to go and play domestic games to sortout his fault in batting. I’m happy that Rudolph is in the group but his not young either
