There is also another Test match going on over this weekend. We wane say congratulations to the Proteaβs who came out on top of a very strange but exiting game. Congratulations to Philander on a good debut and Smith and Amla for their respective 100’s. All the best for the second test and final game of the Ausie tour.

Thanks for the update! Well done for your good results! And keep on with the good work…cheers! Lastly…Proteas, show them Aussies what you have in store…SA cricket rocks!
Sa vs sri lanka from 26 dec in dbn( boxing day test).
@bergshark (Comment 6) : so what that means is that there is rain predicted for the week between Christmas and new year.. π
@bergshark (Comment 6) : that tour start on the 15th of Des.
@Franshark: comment7:lol, hope not,but seems like that’s what happens when there is cricket in kzn of late.
Wonder if the test at the wanderers will see 3 full days of play..?proteas vs aus
is the dolphins game going to be broadcasted ?
@bergshark (Comment 10) : what a bizarre test match last week, pity won’t be watching much cricket though over December, probably the last test match I’ll watch this year, hope it goes on for 5 days atleast. Was I the only 1 who was ecstatic for our captain last week when he scored that century. Huge fan of Graeme Smith
@Ludz (Comment 12) : have always been a smith fan, but I can’t argue that his form in the shorter version of the game(even though I am a fan I have no more excuses for this) has not been up to par, but has always given his best for sa and is one of the best test players in the world.
@BR (Comment 11) : not tomorrow night’s, the showing the Cobras game π
@Franshark (Comment 14) : even though I would like to watch the dolphins play, the fact that their game is not broadcasted mean that they will play a whole game, ss had bad luck with the games they chose to broadcast, how many games that they did broadcast it didn’t rain? If I am correct it is only 2 .
@BR (Comment 15) : if it wasn’t for the no-result after 5 day’s of cricket and the rain/bad light, cricket would have been even more popular. I personally think it is a very exiting game but get so frustrated when I’ve got it all together to watch a game and then it rains… They should somehow come up with a way that there is more results in test matches and put roofs on all cricket stadiums.
Good morning. Read in “Die Burger” during one match the Cape Cobras appeared in (the team they played against was then known as the Eagles), when it rained at Boland Park…what was the solution to dry out the field? It was set alight with paraffin…enjoy your day and happy cricket watching to you all. Lastly, go Proteas!!!

WICKET – GC Smith c Clarke b Johnson 11; SA 24/1.
WICKET – JA Rudolph c Haddin b Watson 30; SA 43/2.
Lunch Day1: SA 107/2 – Smith 11, Rudolph 30. Kallis 43* & Amla 11*
WICKET – JH Kallis c Khawaja b Siddle 54; SA 123/3.
WICKET – HM Amla c Ponting b Cummins 19; SA 129/4.
Kallis – What a legend!
Half way thru the day, midday drinks:SA 168/4 after 39.AB 21 and Prince 23
@Ben (Comment 43) : yes Kallis past 12000 runs in test cricket, passing Lara’s total, 4th most runs of all time.
SA 209/4
AB 51*
Prince 30*
TEA π― in this heat π : SAΒ 213/4 Β (53.0Β ov) De Villiers 51*, Prince 34*
@Franshark (Comment 47) : How did Prince go from 31 to 54 when AB was on 51 when Prince had 30?
@Franshark (Comment 47) : And just 4 more runs on the scoreboard? Doesn’t Prince have 34?
SA 243/7
Boucher and Steyn batting.
SA 266 all out.
@Ben (Comment 48) : again that edit thing π
@Ben (Comment 51) : from 241/4 to 266 all out, eish….
@Franshark (Comment 53) : We seriously need a new wicket keeper batsman.
What a flop when we were looking so strong there.. π
Our bowling and fielding will have to be top tomorrow.we gave some wickets away there π
@bergshark (Comment 56) : disappointed the way we ended, the batsmen threw away wickets just when they started too look good(kallis,ab,prince), think we are in big trouble, this pitch have loads of runs in it.
@BR: and the outfield looks really fast .
@bergshark (Comment 58) : in tru wanderers style, wish they would prepair the ”groen mamba” for just one more time.
So what do you guys think about letting AB keep and bringing an extra batsman into the team in Boucher’s place. That would strengthen the team considerably.
JP Duminy would be a good option as he can bowl spinners as well.
@Ben: eish,it would be really difficult for me to say: drop boucher.he is a sentimental favourite.
@bergshark (Comment 62) : I think its time we move on from him. Nothing against him. Really like him.
@bergshark (Comment 62) : I also would keep boucher in the team(purely sentimental), my favourite players were brian mcmillan then jonty after jonty, boucher&gibbs and after those two there weren’t a player who really stood out.
@BR. : jonty as my fav player – maritzburg ..!
@BR (Comment 64) : @bergshark (Comment 65) : My fav all time player was Lance Klusener. Shaun Pollock comes in close 2nd.
@Ben: klusener and pollock – keeping it kzn,I like π
2nd fav I’d also say shaun pollock
@Ben (Comment 66) : completly forgot about zulu a legend in his own right.
Think they must give van wyk another shot or even darren smit who has been in great form of late.
When I saw klusener on tv I nearly fell of my chair, I almost thought he had some kind of disease
@[email protected]: I also liked wasim akram because I also was a left arm ( unfortunately not so fast or skillfful ) bowler.
@BR (Comment 68) : If I have too chose a favourite it would have too be mcmillan with jonty and klusener definitely close
@bergshark (Comment 69) : If we are going International, my fav of all time has to be Adam Gilchrest. What a great guy.
@BR (Comment 68) : Unfortunately I don’t think Darren Smit will see the Proteas jersey in his lifetime.
think the main reason I like boucher so much is because I were also a batting keeper for my school.
@Ben: adam gilchrist was phenomenal- and had a good attitude,ie walking when he was out.plus left handed batsmen _ see the bias π
@bergshark (Comment 74) : Enjoyed it when he played IPL. He opened the batting and just came out swinging from the very 1st ball.
I remember when the ipl were in sa gibbs and gilchrist opened, that must be the ultimate opening pair in pro20
@BR (Comment 76) : Oh yes it was. Still kicking myself for not going to go and watch a single IPL game live!
@Ben (Comment 77) : was lucky enough too go and watch the final, luckily for me the decan chargers won as well
@BR. That is a potentially nasty combo for the bowlers to deal with .sad gibbs stats don’t reflect his talent.
@BR (Comment 78) : I was stoked after that game! Man you’re lucky!
@bergshark (Comment 79) : did he retire or why aren’t he playing for the cobras
@BR is still playing domestic cricket for the cobras.don’t think he will play for proteas again though..
@BR (Comment 81) : Still playing.
Have a good night Gents.
I’m gonna call it a night @[email protected]
@Ben: good night.write an article for tomorrow π
@bergshark (Comment 86) : Haha about what?
Talking about favourite cricketers…a big thumbs up for Jonty – …always enjoyed watching Adrian Kuiper hit massive sixes.
Not going so great for SA at the moment….Aus. 100/0 after 21 overs. Trail by 166 only.
@Anneleen (Comment 88) : haven’t seen your name in the “getting to know you” post, come now don’t be shy π
Aus 152/0 after 30 overs. Watson 65 and Hughes 79. Trail by ONLY 114, and Tahir is officially warned for running on the pitch…
@Franshark (Comment 90) : he-he…will be posting the details shortly…i’m hoping the Proteas will stand strong!

Steyn strays on the legside, too full and clarke hits a boundary.aus 199/3 trail by 67 runs.
Clarke bottom edges a cross batted shot off steyn’s bowling into the nether regions.. Bit of an ouch moment for aus capt.
@Franshark: just heard commentator mention both aus and sa have a pakistan born player in their team facing off against each other.

201/3 tahir bowling at fellow pakistani born player .drops one too short and it gets pulled over midwicket area fo 4 runs.

Aus 233/5 trial by 33runs
Khawaja lbw b steyn
Hussey b steyn 20 what a beautiful delivery..!!
Off stump bails knocked off
Morkel bowling in tandem with steyn.
Keep it on target, keep it tight.
Morkel at 138.4km/h last ball of the over
Philander has replaced morkel.
Johnson has a lazy dab at a philander delivery ,no edge.no run.
Philander over the wicket to left handed johnson.
Commentators speculating that there might ve a problem with philander’s hamstring.hope not.tahir is on a warning for running on the wicket.
Aus 234/6 trail by 32 runs.
Haddin has a wild slash at a wide delivery from steyn and edges the ball through a 4th slip area, high and four runs.
Haddin plays a good shot in front off point for a boundary.
Aus now trail by 24 runs
Philander starts the 67th over. Aus 242/6.
Over the head of mid on by johnson.not a very convincing shot but he gets 3 runs.
Haddin drives the ball just wide off amla through the covers, boundary.
End of the 67th over aus 251/6 trail by 15 runs
Kallis has replaced steyn to bowl the 68th over
Sorry guys I’m on the road so therefore the scores are limited, Aus 242/6 after 66 overs. Trail by 24. Johnson 0 and Haddin 10
@Franshark: wondering where you at?
Has tahir picked up his 1st test wicket?on review….
Haddin lbw b tahir
Well done to imran tahir for his first test wicket.
Siddle bowled tahir..!!!
New batsmen for aus is pat cummins, only 18 years old and only 4 first class matches before making his test debut .. ( Guess plum and co not involved in the selection there..).
Aus 261/8 trail by 5
Johnson plays and misses kallis’ last delivery.
Aus 262/8 trail by 4 runs
Why doesn’t smith protect the point boundary with the left handed batsmen in??
Aus lead by 1 run
Focus the bowling,proteas.
Aus lead by 2 runs
Johnson four runs, off drive.aus lead by 6 runs.
Johnson successive fours off kallis.lead by ten.
Morkel getting some attention to his hamstring it would seem after stopping another johnson off drive at mid off.
Aus now lead by 16 runs.unlucky 4 byes as tahir almost bowls johnson but the delivery beats johnson’s bat,the stumps and boucher.
Cummins c boucher b steyn 2
Aus 285/9 lead by 19runs.
End of the 79th over.aus leads by 19runs.
@bergshark (Comment 142) : How is Philander? I saw him also getting attention. I hope it’s just cramp.
Aus 291/9 leads by 25 runs as johnson gets a boundary
Aus 292/9 leads by 26 runs.
@war1:Haven’t seen him ball for awhile.will see if his on the field for you.
Dropped??!!!! No!!!! Steyn sees the sub fielder drop lyon on 2..
Okay, the substitute fielder is lions spin bowler(couldn’t quite get his name..dale deed(sic)).wouldve been dale steyn’s 250th test wicket-fastest to hit in test history.
Now paul harris is on the field.
So dale deed(?) Came on,dropped a catch, and then disappears into the change room..what was that all about??
Lyon lbw b tahir 2
Aus 296 lead by 30runs.
Steyn 18 overs 64 runs 4 wickets – 1 wicket short of reaching 250the test wicket in fastest time yet ( matches played)
Tahir 3 for 55.
@war1: there was a substitute fielder on the field, for morkel- hamstring.philander running around on the boundary.
Smith and rudolph to open the sa 2nd innings.
Commentators saying the light isn’t good- appraoching thumder storm.
New ball hasn’t been taken in the series yet.
Umpires looking at the light meter..consulting…
Well the umpires say it is play on.. Commentators questioning the wisdom of that… And now they are off the field.. Crazy..!! Bowls one more ball after saying the light is fine, and then they say: okay chaps, close of play.
Umpires still out there in the middle..player off..
Bails are off, close of play it seems is now official..
Umpires stull out there on the field having an animated chat..
Well not official because they might still come back on..
Australia 296 (D Steyn 4/64, Imran Tahir 3/55) – Aus lead by 30 runs.
@bergshark (Comment 160) : hey, thanks for doing the updates, I should refresh before posting a comment…

@Big Fish (Comment 208) : How so? They didn’t lose. π
So Pro 20’s and Tests were drawn, one each. Australia won the ODI series. So I guess that means the Aussies beat us in our own back yard.
@klempie (Comment 209) :
Well, they had the game and a historic series win in the palm of their collective hand, and threw it away. That’s epic choking that is.
@Ben (Comment 210) : don’t geuss, know it happend πΏ
But the images of nathan lyon ..priceless π he mustve been the most tense person in both countries..! π
And the most relieved when the winning runs were score..! π
Scored.. π
