The man with no first name, Bulls prop Rossouw de Klerk, has opted to avoid a first-round Super Rugby meeting with the Sharks by injuring his foot!
The young tighthead, who was humiliated twice this past Currie Cup by the Sharks front row in general – and Dale Chdawick in particular – has undergone an operation and will play no Super Rugby until the start of May, leaving Werner Kruger with little backup in the crucial number 3 jersey.
The Bulls’ only prop acquisition ahead of the season has come in the form of the Pumas’ Dawie Steyn, who is more usually a loosehead.

“The young tighthead, who was humiliated twice this past Currie Cup by the Sharks front row in general”
👿 👿
Thanks Rob leka oak hey
Ryno Gerber the ex Stade Francais prop is on his way to the bulls he will provide cover at tighthead for us.
@Muzi (Comment 2) :
Wow really?
If he’s the same as before he left, he’d be your best tighthead, by far!
@hendrikp (Comment 3) : that’s not saying much…. Gerber was only marginally better than Kruger when he left…
@Muzi (Comment 1) : you dispute it? De Klerk is soft
if Muzi is as predictable as I think he is, he’s now going to haul out the names of 15 schoolboy tightheads the Bulls have signed, each of whom is ready to take the step up and become a future Springbok captain… 🙂
@Muzi (Comment 2) : Has that been confirmed? 😕
@diablo (Comment 7) :
Just checked Volksblad.
And yes, Gerber has joined up with the Bulls.
Didn’t renew his contract with Stade Francais – who were struggling to pay their players. A few late paychecks maybe!
@hendrikp (Comment 8) : just checked the rag in question and saw no sign of that story…?
@hendrikp (Comment 8) : “No replacement has been called for De Klerk in the Bulls wider training squad yet.” – that is an excerp from the BB-site, hence my ❓ to Muzi 🙄
@robdylan (Comment 9) :
It’s part of the Rossouw de Klerk missing the start of Super 15 story…
@hendrikp (Comment 11) :
It’s on Volksblad as well, but here’s another:
http://www.beeld.com/Sport/Rugby/De-Klerk-lank-op-kantlyn-20111207
@hendrikp (Comment 12) :
Whoops only just read the actual thing!
Hasn’t got a contract yet. Just moved back to Pretoria and said he was interested…
Thanks for nothing muzi 😉
It’s likely to happen though. They’d be crazy to turn him away.
@hendrikp (Comment 8) : go read that story again… saying he has joined up with the Bulls is basically a lie!
He is back in Pretoria and says he would like to play for the Bulls, but that they haven’t even started talking yet. BIG difference.
@hendrikp (Comment 13) : Muzi getting ahead of himself again… won’t be long before Gerber is the incumbent Bok tighthead with Frik Kirsten as his deputy 🙂
‘The man with no first name’ 😆 😆
You guys should get him at the sharks, he could join up with ‘the man with no surname’ 😆
@robdylan (Comment 14) :
We’ll let him off hey.
He probably read it somewhere on a Bulls messageboard.
@hendrikp (Comment 17) :
He should start reading the official site
See my comment 10 😉
@hendrikp (Comment 17) : probably lost in translation… not too many English ones of those 🙂
@Greg (Comment 16) : who’s that? Keegan?
@robdylan (Comment 20) : Well, what is Keegan’s surname? 😆
@robdylan (Comment 19) :
True that.
Much as I love Afrikaans I also get annoyed when people start writing it on News24… or Bakkies and co. speak it after a game. 👿
@Greg (Comment 21) : Ja, but Keegan is a surname, not a first name… if anything, he’s just the wrong way round
Diablo go get another profile Pic.
I am VERY surprised no one has mentioned that pierre spies pic.
You are in Sharks and WP territory.
@robdylan (Comment 23) : 😆
@Muzi (Comment 24) :
Yes, the young lad didn’t exactly cover himself with glory during the currie cup, but losing your “best” tighthead back-up, is quite a blow. Kruger, imo has only started in the past year or so to really hold up his end.
What was once our strength, might become our bane. Gerber needs to be signed – asap, else it will be reverse gear if Kruger gets injured.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 27) : Agree 100% with you.
I hate it when our scrum goes turbo reverse.
@diablo (Comment 26) : I’m serious boet when the bulls made spies captain this website was on FIRE.
All hell broke loose.
People nearly got heart attacks.
@Muzi (Comment 29) : I think the general concensus here at SW (altho not an opinion I share) is that Spies is overrated. Folks were happy to see a player who they perceived to be a weak link made leader – that’s far from heart attack.
Lambie is the only heart-attack inducing player on this site
@Blue Centurion (Comment 27) :
Hold up his end?
He embarrassed himself on the tour to Australasia.
Greyling telling us how big they were, not fitting into the scrum machine and all that rubbish makes it all the worse.
They shouldn’t even offer Werner Kruger another contract. Doubt there is a tighthead as bad as him starting anywhere in Super rugby.
@beet (Comment 30) : No sir Johann Goose is the only hear-attack inducing player.
Lambie is a gem please do not mess the kid around. 😉
@Muzi (Comment 29) : I DO follow the chirps here, and have done for quite a while. I always wear an imaginary “bullet-proof jacket” when commenting ….. 😀
@hendrikp (Comment 31) : What about Brock Harris will he stand at centre when he gets a bok cap.
@diablo (Comment 33) : i go all full out boet ask beet i act as a shadow bulls scout.
Every god damn sharky article ends up being a bulls junior player article. 🙂
It drives Rob Dylan crazy poor dude can not stomach Francois Venter and Arno Botha. 🙂
I’m young and i do not give a stuff what they say.
Thsi Blue Bull is here to stay.
Hope i do not get fired.
@beet (Comment 30) : You should also remember that when Heyneke was still the coach, Spies had a tremendous good run of form in 06/07 until his injury. Now being the DOR and given the history of those seasons, in his mind Spies was the logical choice.
But I don’t think Meyer is stupid. If Spies doesn’t perform as well as he should as a number 8, he’ll get blasted by Meyer – and if nothing happens then, we will see change.
But I agree, he is not in form – for a while now.
Personally I think all issues like this will be ironed out within the next year.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 36) :Amen to that sir Pierre knows he has to give it horns or else Stander and Arno will replace him ASAP.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 36) : Heyneke Meyer is like a father figure for Spies VERY close to him.
Watch Pierre perform next year.
@Muzi (Comment 34) :
Muzi, I’d back him not to miss so many tackles & hopefully not get his back broken like Kruger.
Owen Franks is here———
Some other players are here————
Brok Harris is here————–
And then we get Werner Kruger. The worst TH you could ask for—–
@hendrikp (Comment 31) : @hendrikp (Comment 31) : He shouldn’t be a Springbok – that I agree (Greyling too) – at least not until he has commanded more respect. He holds up his end at the BULLS – against any and all. Which is a hell of a lot more I could say for some props Australia and the Stormers put out on the field.
@Muzi (Comment 38) : My gut tells me the same as the pressure will be huge.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 36) : Too true, and I do believe Meyer can “unlock” the potential again 😎
@hendrikp (Comment 39) : How on earth can you put Brock in the same sentence as franks. 🙂
Thats a disgrace and a travesty. 😕
I’d put ginger or malherbe before franks because they WILL step up.
Its the first time in years that i have seen two young props scrum in senior rugby level without any technical issues.
Very Strong.
Coenie is a penalty machine.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 41) : @diablo (Comment 42) : Heard the buys are training hard.
Pierre is leading the charge up front.
At the moment the guys are busy with speed training and conditioning.
@Muzi (Comment 43) :
This post confused me.
Franks is the best tighthead in the SH at the moment. Can’t put Malherbe & Kitshoff ahead of him right now my man.
And I meant that Harris is terrible, but not as bad as Kruger… just! A tight race for who’s the worst.
@hendrikp (Comment 45) : Werner folds tooo much he just can not get that bloody bind straight. 😕
I have to admit Brock is not a bad scrummager.
@hendrikp (Comment 45) : Oh please, Harris has had his behind handed to him so many times at scrum time, he probably thinks it’s normal. True, Kruger did struggle in the beginning of his senior career – and whilst at the Springboks, but more often than not, you won’t see him disappointing.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 47) :
Stormers only conceded 2 tightheads with Brok Harris.
Yet they won 4.
He’s not a bad scrummager, he just bloody useless in general play.
“I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain
La, la … ”
With thanks to America.
Rob, this and the previous thread is testimony to what great site you have running. Even the Bulls and Province outjies come and argue with each other here on a Sharks site.
Keep up the good work 🙂 🙂
🙂
@JustPlainSHARK (Comment 50) : thanks mate… appreciate that a lot
