Time for some test cricket. Sri Lanka is in town (Centurion) and thou they not a team that poses the same threat as the Australians specifically away from home, they will do their best to upset the Proteas in their backyard.

For the home team it will be a choice of picking an all out pace attack or playing Tahir with the 4(incl Kallis) pacemen. Going the route of all out pace would mean that De Lange will earn his first test cap.

Proteasโ€™ squad: Graeme Smith (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, capt), AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans, vice-capt), Hashim Amla (Sunfoil Dolphins), Mark Boucher (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Marchant de Lange (Nashua Titans), Imran Tahir (Sunfoil Dolphins), Jacques Kallis (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans), Alviro Petersen (bizhub Highveld Lions), Vernon Philander (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Ashwell Prince (Chevrolet Warriors), Jacques Rudolph (Nashua Titans), Dale Steyn (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras).

Sri Lanka squad: TM Dilshan*, AD Mathews, LD Chandimalโ€ , ANPR Fernando, CRD Fernando, HMRKB Herath, DPMD Jayawardene, FDM Karunaratne, BAW Mendis, NT Paranavitana, NLTC Perera, TT Samaraweera, KC Sangakkaraโ€ , JK Silva, HDRL Thirimanne, UWMBCA Welegedara

1 Day cup wrap:

As most of you folks already know the Cape Cobras have won the 1 day cup tournament. Congrats to the team and its supporters.

Playing in a final is aways great but the icing on the cake is performing well for your team. Levi, one of only a few uncapped international players in a star filled team did just that, playing a wonderful knock in a run chase that saw the home team winning the game and the trophy with 9 balls to spare.

A special mention has to be made to their coach, Richard Pybus, as when he was at the Titans they dominated cricket is SA and now the same with his time at the Cobras.

Congratulations to Blou blou bul for winning the Sharksworld SB competition.

The top 5 batsman by runs scored:
D Elgar 567
(Knights)
F du Plessis. 544
(Titans)
CA Ingram. 505
(Warriors)
A Jacobs 457
(Warriors)
ND McKenzie 455
(Lions)

And the top 5 bowlers by most wickets:

CK Langeveldt. 22
(Cape Cobras)
D du Preez 19
(Knights)
M Ntini 18
(Warriors)
M de Lange. 15
(Titans)
WD Parnell 14
(Warriors)
De Lange’s stricke rate was the best getting a wicket every 22 balls.

Enjoy the test match, starting at 10:30(SA time), weather permitting.

  • Not out…ball missed the bat or the gloves by a huge distance..bit of a bad call that ) to give batsman out initially).batsman takes it on referral and wins.

  • Debutant bowlers doing very well for SA these last few tests.

Wonder why so many bowlers who started off well for the Proteas these last few years have pretty much fallen off the radar?

  • Interesting day of cricket, SL first innings all out for 338, then SA bowled out for 168, 170 runs behind the SL total, and to end the day SL are 7/1 in their 2nd innings….

  • @Franshark (Comment 128) :

BTW sorry i missed you . i came back to PTA on Monday instead of Tuesday .

I dont know . i get the feeling that if Smith goes early no other player can stand up and be counted .

March it will be 3 year years since Price have scored 3 figures .
Morkel has also been struggling . Prince is a player in the grafting mold and he has not done his job in almost 3 years .

Who do we replace Prince with if he gets dropped ? i dont think Duminy . maybe bring in Alviro Petersen ? but then he needs an extended run in the team .

Also do we Drop Morkel for somebody who has more all round abilities ? McLaren maybe ? because i wonder . is Steyn working so hard on improving his batting that his bowling is suffering ?

i really feel we need an all rounder @ 8 . but we will see

  • @Zibbie (Comment 129) : with de Lange doing well I thought that it would be a idea to replace Morkel with Philander when his ready again…
Rhodolf is just not getting it right but should get a bid more chance, Petersen, yes and moving Smith to nr3, Duminy is young, good fielder and another bowling option… And I’m not convinsed with Boucher either….
