Former Wallaby coach Eddie Jones has been appointed as head coach of the Japanese national side.
Jones, who has a Japanese wife, has been in charge of a club side in Japan for the last two years, prior to that he played a role as technical adviser to the springboks in their 2007 World Cup campaign. He also coach the Brumbies in Super Rugby, as well as steering the Wallabies to the World Cup Final in 2003.
Jones replaces former All Black winger John Kirwan, who has been at the helm in Tokyo for the last 5 years. With Japan hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2019, it’s vital that they start to show a marked improvement in form if they hope to progress out of the group stages at that tournament (or face being the first host nation not to do so in the tournament’s history). Japan have never won a World Cup match, despite appearing in each of the tournaments to far.

I know I am turning up as a not so likeable fella so far on this site, but Japan beat Zim in 1991. Just saying’ 😉
Regardless, hope that the Japanese can turn there fortunes around or hasten them, won’t be contenders in 2019 by any stretch of the imagination, but with the talent heading over to their leagues, and the ‘mercenary’ recuitment going on, it shouldn’t be out of their reach to get out of the pool stages. Hopefully.
@LordHope (Comment 1) : hey who says we don’t like you 😯 and your right about the 1991 game 😉
@LordHope (Comment 1) : thanks for pointing that out… you can tell how excited I was about this story based on how much actual research I did for it 🙂
@LordHope (Comment 1) :
What makes you think that?
