A few players in both the Stormers and Lions camp seem to be suffering the same sort of “2011 hangover” affecting key Sharks players Jean Deysel and Willem Alberts.
For the Stormers, lock Andries Bekker and loose forward Duane Vermeulen are both facing a few challenges in terms of being fit for the season opener in the last week of February. The gargantuan Bekker missed out on the latter half of last year’s season thanks to an ankle injury, while Vermeulen suffered a knee complaint that effectively ruled him out for the entire Currie Cup season – this despite being named captain for the campaign. With the Stormers having lost a fair bit of fire power at the back, they would not want to be without two of their stalwart forwards for any stretch of the 2012 season.
Meanwhile, in Johannesburg, Lions coach John Mitchell has confirmed that start flyhalf Elton Jantjies will play no part in the upcoming Neo Africa Tri-Series as he is still struggling with a broken hand. He is expected to be fit in time for the season opener, along with CJ van der Linde, who is battling a groin injury. Also named as injured is Waylon Murray – who according to a SuperSport report re-injured his knee in a kitchen fall. The player himself, though, has vehemently denied this allegation on Twitter, so it sounds as though somebody’s wires are crossed!

Did Jantjies hurt his hand biting a hamburger?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 1) : Maybe gelling is mohawk
Seems all our unions have their fare share of injuries. Wonder what things look like on the ‘nzar’ side.
Injury my ass, Mitchell doesn’t want to risk Jantjies in the Neo series and Butch needs to earn his salary
@Mutley (Comment 4) : Either that or “Broken Hand” is Lions code for “conditioning program”

Not sure where this comes from ..I can assure you this kid is not over weight ..having seen him live he is in peak physical condition …although as we all know TV does add a few kilos … 😉

@CoffeeshopBok 😉 (Comment 6) : I actually saw him in Centurion Mall during December and he definitely didn’t look overweight. It was the early part of December though, don’t know how hard he hit the Christmas lunch
