Sharksworld can confirm that Sharks utility back Jacques-Louis Potgieter is on his way to join French side Bayonne.
Potgieter will fly to France tonight and if medical testing is successful at the club, he will be signed up to play for them for the rest of the season.
The Sharks, while they have yet to confirm so, must presumably have released Potgieter from the remainder of his 3-year contract, which runs until the end of next year.

Have to say that I’m a bit bummed by this. He would’ve been a star for the Sharks but unfortunately he signed with us just before the emergence of a certain Mr. Lambie. I wish him well in the rest of his playing career.
Really sad this he was never given a proper chance @ Sharks duffed once and was dropped while Joubert duffed all his games except one and was always picked 👿
Hope he does well in France! Not given a fair shot.
In agreement with all the posts above. Good luck JLP!
Yeah, mixed feelings. He got a raw deal I feel. Yes he stuffed up but a lot less than other candidates who`re still hanging around.
It`s a blow to our depth.
Rather than displaying any more negativity I will just say. 😳
No Comment.
i would prefer marius joubert om the plane tonight and not pottie
jlp scored a nice try against the saders @ twickenham, that try helped calm the ship as the saders were rampant at the time.
a much better player than some (i.e. KSA) will give him credit for 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 9) : 😆
@jovner (Comment 7) : Agreed 😀
On the bright side, it could open up a spot on the bench for someone like Paul Jordaan.
@Original Pierre (Comment 5) : +100000
@robdylan (Comment 9) : Yeah he set the world alight with his chances he had this season. 🙂
All the best to JLP. Really feel for him not getting more game time. Should have been tried out a bit more at 12 last year.
The Sharks signed him when we were desperate for a flyhalf and there weren’t many choices. Then SuperPat emerged and JLP was relegated to the bench or the stands. Good luck to him, Bayonne are second from the bottom in the Top14 and are going to have to do a lot to avoid relegation to the Pro D2.
@robdylan (Comment 9) : I agree.
@KingRiaan (Comment 1) : judging by his performances during lambie’s injury (especially kicking) not so sure about it.
I wish him well – but he did not play well for the Sharks so I will not miss him too much.
@rekinek (Comment 17) : spot on.
Won’t pretend that I was a Big Fan of his(it was that blue jersey) but think he deserved a shot at center and believe he has the ability to have made a great success of it…
Come on sharks…much more value in Pots than Bosman and Joubert!!! Shocker!!! And I am not even a Fan of Pots!!! Just think Plum is not really in Touch with reality…we Just lost a player that can Play 10 to 15!!!!
@BoerSeun (Comment 20) : I think this head banging this ruggaball influenced your senses 😉
@KSA Shark © (Comment 13) : he kicked like shit… and that looked very bad, given how much noise he;d made in pre-season about being an ace goal-kicker.
His all-round play at flyhalf was better than we’ve had from anyone other than Lambie… and I include the unpredictable Frog in that category.
@robdylan (Comment 22) : I agree. We could have at least given him an opportunity at centre, it’s not like MJ set the CC alight. We really gave him a raw deal. Sorry JLP, best of luck.
Best of luck Jacques. I agree with the fact that he was better than certain centres, unfortunately he didnt get as much time to show his worth.
@JarsonX (Comment 24) : hehe – to me it seems like i’ve seen him too much 😆
is there 6nations superbru pool open?
All the best to j-l potgieter in france.
He did sound so keen to contribute to the sharks in his sw interview.wouldve been nice if he was afforded more opportunities.
@rekinek (Comment 25) : Not a SW one yet, but I have one.
@JarsonX (Comment 27) : And why I am not invited 🙁
Rich, can we pls have sw sb 🙂 pretty please
@rekinek (Comment 28) : Sure I did 😳
He made a mistake when he left the Cheetahs< he played his best Rugby for them< like the 2009 CC semi final
This sucks man!! We (Sharks Rugby) might just have screwed his career for good … Was never given a chance while some other players performed well below average and got picked every game ALA, Marius & Meyer!
