The Sharks website has confirmed some further details regarding the cricket match between the Sharks and the Dolphins at Kingsmead on Sunday.
As one would expect, the typical Pro20 rules have been tweaked a little in order to ensure a fairer contest; although “tweaked” is possibly not strong enough a word to describe the quite blatant handicapping in favour of the rugby boys! It’s all been done for good reason, though, since I’m sure none of the fans would like to watch a totally one-sided match that sees a professional cricket side dispatch a bunch of keen amateurs with ridiculous ease.
The rule amendments that have been agreed include the following:
The Sharks have also named a provisional squad which, like Super Rugby squad, includes a mixture of youth an experience. Keegan Daniel will captain the side and looks set to bat towards the middle of the order, with classy youngsters Pat Lambie and Gouws Prinsloo likely to open. New recruit Riaan Viljoen will show his versatility as both batsmen and bowler, while the likes of Lwazi Mvovo, Cobus Reinach and Timmy Whitehead will use their pace to good effect as specialist fielders.
Charl McLeod will need to show that he has the fastest hands in the squad – he’s been named as wicketkeeper.

This should be fun. If I was in Durban I would definitely have been there!
Pat Lambie will be good!
Didn’t they want to put in The Academy players as well?!? Seems like a shiload full of players! LOL
Looking forward to having a good laugh on sunday! Haha, bissy all kited up is going to be a scary thing!! Dolphins are going down! 😉
who’s going to the game?
Mind a few of the Sharks players excelled at cricket at school as well. Who are/ were they? (apart from Lambie of course)
Sharks to take it, The Dolphins arent exactly the best team out there 😈
@Talent (Comment 3) : You’re a clairvoyant?? Awsome! Re we gonna win the S15?? Is Frans Steyn coming to the Sharks? Who’s the new Bok Coach? 😈
I hope we’ll get to see the full scorecard 😀
@robdylan (Comment 6) : Im going to the game Rob. Should be interesting. I know a few guys did play 1st side at school but in most cases that was quite a few years ago. I guess we will see what the Sharks handling this year will be like. Definitely need Mvovo and Reinach as specialist runners…good luck running those 2 out!
I propose Beast as ” Special Guest Umpire”. He`ll call it down the middle ! 😈
Intimidation sorted.
@JarsonX (Comment 10) : or live commentary would be great…
@Original Pierre (Comment 12) : 😈
Why are our specialist no.2 jumping locks being left out? 😈
@beet (Comment 15) : My guess is, they’ll have no idea what to do with a ball that comes their way 😈
@beet (Comment 15) : They haven’t got big enough bats….
Lambie shouldnt play to good, otherwise they might call him up to the Proteas 😉
The Dolphins are crap enough that the Sharks don’t need the extra help…
The weather in Durban is not playing along this morning, with some drizzle about to the North and heavy overcast conditions.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) : 🙁
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) : send the rain away. i am going to be there on Thursday
