Juan Martin Hernandez might get his second chance at playing Super Rugby after it was reported on the stuff.co.nz website that the Blues have approached the Argentinian flyhalf.
Hernandez, who is 29 and made a massive impact at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, previously signed for the Sharks for the 2010 Super Rugby season, but never had an impact as a back injury ruled him out for a large part of the season.
The Blues have two rather no-name brand flyhalves in Gareth Anscombe and Michael Hobbs to use for the season, as well as having Piri Weepu who has played at flyhalf before.
Hernandez will be quite a scoop for the Blues, who will be pushing for top honours in the NZ conference.

If this guy fires, he could be huge for the Blues!
Watch out for Gareth Anscombe…this guy is SUPER talented. He will be a star for the Blues!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : Biggest problem with Hernandez is how injury-prone he is. He has not played much since he left the Sharks.
@war1 (Comment 3) :
Yeah, and playing SupeRugby week in and week out will be tough.
If he can stay injury free for a bit, he would do well..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 4) : He is world class. So I agree that if he keeps fit he could be huge for the Blues. We also have to bear in mind that this is just a rumour at this stage.
Good signing for the Blues. Hope his injuries doesn’t bother him
@Mutley (Comment 6) : This is not confirmed yet.
Injuries aside if Hernandez fires the Blues could be a huge factor this year.
They`re second favourites after the Crusers on sportsbet already.
Sharks available at about 10 odds . . .
Ominous sign for us I`m afraid.
Eish! The Blues have had so many different flyhalves in recent seasons – Isa Nacewu, Nick Evans, Jimmy Gopperth, Steven Brett, Tasesa Lavea. I think even McAllister and Ice Toeava have played flyhalf.
Maybe it’s time to give Lachie Munro a shot or if Villie says watch Anscombe that’s good enough for me. I’d even back Hobbs. Anything but Hernandez. I think he’d be a waste of time, esp for a team that like to play at a lightning tempo.
Weepu will probably start most games.
