Bryce Lawrence, the referee who many feel cost the Springboks a spot in the Rugby World Cup semi finals last year, will not be asked to travel to South Africa to cover SupeRugby matches in the Republic.
NZRU Referee of the Year for 2011, Lawrence has been given matches only in Australia and New Zealand, as SANZAR felt that they do not need any distractions from the game which might be caused by Lawrence coming to South Africa.
Lawrence has been attacked and threatened in various ways, from hatred Facebook groups to our own former captain John Smit saying that the best part of being retired was to never have to play a game in which Lawrence was the referee.
I think we can all heave a heavy sigh of relief, even though it does not mean he will not referee a game in the Antipodes in which a South African team is playing.

Flip I didn’t see Wayne Barnes avoid NZ after his mistake cost the Kiwis a RWC semi final spot.
This does go to show though that Lawrence didn’t make a mistake. It was deliberate!!
