Entering its fourth year of running, the Canterbury Fantasy League on JustRugby.net is the ultimate test of planning, foresight and sheer nerve, as managers select a squad of 30 players and score points as they progress through the Super Rugby season. Just as Super Rugby itself is all about attrition, so too is the Canterbury Fantasy League; trades are intentionally in short supply and the winning manager will be the one whose squad is able to make it all the way through 21 gruelling rounds with as many men left standing – and scoring points – as possible.

My single biggest mistake last year was impatience.
Couldn`t wait for the season to start so I selected my squad way in advance.
By the time the actual rugby kicked off I already had injury problems.
I know a certain Lassie Lion is in for a rude awakening though . . . have it on good authority he plans to select the complete Lions team!

Last Man Standing:
The aim of the game is quite simple. There are 15 teams in the Super Rugby competition, and you have to select each of those teams over an 18 week period to win a game. With the overlap in weeks available, there has been a bye system implemented, which you can use at any point during the competition. Select a team that draws or loses and you are dead. Last person alive, wins. Quite simple actually.
Some users take this very seriously, predicting their selection for the entire campaign, and sticking to that theory come hell or high water. This could work, if you have a crystal ball, but you are most likely going to have to amend such selections as certain teams impress or in the Lions’ case, fail to.
Another tactical view point is to select the best teams first, and hope like hell the others die before you have to select any of the Force, Rebels or dare I say it, the Lions.
As you can see, this is clearly not as clear cut as you might imagine.
