New Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has made it clear that he will work with the SupeRugby franchises, as well as approaching the overseas based players and agents, to be able to select the best possible Springbok squad.

Speaking in terms of conditioning, the new coach has made it clear that he will chat to the local coaches and try get them to rotate the star players, so that they do not burn out during the current season, be it at franchise level or once they play in the Green and Gold.

Another point of concern is the conditioning of the players based in the Northern Hemisphere, although we have talented players in Europe, the challenge is to get them to peak physically at the same time as the local players, even though they are at different stages in their respective seasons.

Meyer told reporters that he will travel to all the local franchises as well as travelling overseas to talk to coaches and players individually, in a plan to get all and sundry to work towards one common goal, and that is to make a great Springbok side.

Meyer has also made it clear that he will be studying the ever-changing trends in world rugby and ensure that the Boks evolve with the game and with the new interpretation laws.

  • This could be good news for the players based in Europe..

I think Meyer might have a soft spot for the likes of Wannenburg and Hougaard…

  • Heyneke is making all the right noises, let’s hope he sticks to the plan and is able to execute. I also hope the franchises work together with Heyneke for the greater good of the Boks but this might not be so easy with the pressure on the S15 coaches to perform.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 3) :

Especially with all the derby matches, these guys are going to kill each other..

What is the bet we will be without at least 5 of our top Boks when it comes to facing England..
