Darron Nell will again captain the Southern Kings as they face the Sharks in a warm-up match in PE on Friday evening.
The Kings side looks to be a far stronger unit than the one that went down heavily to the Lions in midweek, with the likes of Tiger Mangweni, Falie Oelschig, Nell, Clint Newland, Hannes Franklin and Jaco Engels all boasting Super Rugby experienced. Former Sharks under 21 centre Dwayne Jenner has won promotion from the Bulldog-laden Kings B-team to start at outside center for the first-choice side, with former Sharks trialist Jacques Vleis Engelbrecht also starting at number 8.
Fan favourite Earl Rose will be on the bench, alongside another former Sharks under 21 player in Kieran Goss.
Kings:
15. Tiger Mangweni
14. Norman Nelson
13. Dwayne Jenner
12. Wayne Stevens
11. Marcello Sampson
10. Shane Gates
9. Falie Oelschig

7. Mpho Mbiyozo
6. Boetie Brits

16. Bobby Dyer
17. Zane Killian

26. Kieran Goss

Here comes a hiding…
i’m glad that that it is a stronger kings team to play against the sharks than the lions. we need a good hit out before the season start. we will beat them with 40 points. still don’t know how the kings will survive next year. they are a crappy team
fan favourite earl rose β ha ha,the best part of the article
No Luke? Is he injured or just scared?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) :
Agreed.
Kings by 40.
@hendrikp (Comment 5) : Is the one side of ur face black and blue from all the back hands uve got in ur life?
Sharks – 24 players, Kings – 26, why?
@Die Kriek (Comment 7) : This is not an official league match and the teams can have as many players on the bench as the like.
@Die Kriek (Comment 7) : Sorry that was the wrong answer. Its because Marcel Coetzee and bissie are going to break so many players in half and they need to keep 15 on the field π
@Viking (Comment 8) : I was going to ask why more Kings then, they don’t need the match fitness, but your answer (Comment 9) is logical enough, but then begs the question, why 26 instead of 40?
@Die Kriek (Comment 10) : Hey, I do not have all the answers. But I would guess they couldn;t make up 40 because the Lions broke the rest
@JJR (Comment 6) :
No, it’s not.
But you clearly don’t understand sarcasm. π―
Sharks should easily put 50 points over them.
They shouldn’t have any excuses after loosing as well. They have more players than the sharks π
All the Killians related?
Zane, Michael & Ernest?
Rob, do you know where Luke is?
@jako (Comment 15) :
Injured.
@hendrikp (Comment 12) : keep going… I’m sure there are still one or two posters here that you haven’t annoyed
@jako (Comment 15) : injured
@hendrikp (Comment 12) :
Sarcasm is something I have given up on, on this site..
It is very often taken as the gospel truth, and we don’t need that sort of confusion here. As you know, we have some really sharp people on this site.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 19) : Ja… I are very sharp
Dwayne Jenner?… Rich, you should be happy about that!! π π
@Villie (Comment 21) :
Which one is that now? I get so bloody confused.. π³
@robdylan (Comment 17) :
Meh, if you find me annoying you obviously care too much
@robdylan (Comment 17) :
@hendrikp (Comment 23) :
It’s actually quite fun to have someone to have an intelligent debate with, instead of having to explain my afrikaans-speaking-person comments..
Guys!! Anyone goimg to the match that can give live updates perhaps??
@Die Kriek (Comment 7) : they need more reinforcements
@Viking (Comment 9) : thats a better answer
@robdylan (Comment 20) : I are shark too π
@hendrikp (Comment 12) : We can tell if you being sarcastic or not…you said Sharks won’t finish Top 2 of the SA Conference, i thought that was sarcasm, and it turned out u were serious…so maybe a ” π ” at the end of a sarcastic comment would help π
@hendrikp (Comment 23) : When one is very passionate about something, one tends to take it very seriously π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 19) : Stem saam…ek is so skerp as ‘n sker π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 19) : @robdylan (Comment 20) : @hendrikp (Comment 12) : @JJR (Comment 31) : You guys are all just jealous cause you can’t be like me with my Einsteinian good looks and super-model intellect… no wait π³
@Ice (Comment 25) : Yip, really hoping someone can provide us a few updates and perhaps even a match report.
@Culling Song (Comment 32) :
Well said..
@Culling Song (Comment 32) :
Brain getting ready for the holiday?
@Pokkel (Comment 35) : Brain is currently already lying on a beach throwing back the 5th margharita for the day and wondering if it’s a good idea to swim drunk… Unfortunately it’s still slightly more than a week before my body can join it…
@vanmartin (Comment 33) : Found somoen!!! π
Oh how I wish they throw a curve ball and start with the Fan Favourite !!
What happened to Monty Dumond? Injured as well?
a far stronger unit …..
excuses strating already?
π π
@Greg (Comment 39) :
Starting π³
saw it too late to edit.
can’t wait to see JP being exposed @ 13 by Dwayne π
In Durban, Springbok wing JP Pietersen yesterday welcomed a possible move to outside centre for the Sharks after being handed another start in the midfield for their warm-up game against the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth tomorrow. But he said the move was not yet cast in stone despite his donning the No13 jersey in all their warm-up games.
“We havenβt made any final decisions as to where the coach is going to play me in Super Rugby,” Pietersen said. “But Iβm keen on it (centre) and Iβm confident I can play there, although Iβm not getting ahead of myself.”
Commenting on the possibility of playing in the midfield for the Springboks under newly appointed Bok coach Heyneke Meyer if the move materialised at the Sharks, he said: “I think it is too early to talk about playing there for the Springboks. I have no idea whether Plum (coach John Plumtree) and Heyneke have spoken about it. I guess if I do it well for the Sharks first, then what happens at national team level will take off itself. Iβll take it game by game. Itβs a huge challenge for me, but Iβm keen to work on it.”
Plumtree was also keen on the move earlier this week, but said such a decision had to be supported by the assistant coaches and the player.
“I thought JP looked good again (at centre against Boland). We will have to sit down and decide where weβre going with this. We have to chat to JP and decide if we go ahead with it,” he said.
@Megatron (Comment 41) : just journos trying to conjure up a story
@Megatron (Comment 41) :
you bloody stirrir you lol
ok so Southern kings, are the future of SA rugby π― and they just lost 88-0 to the Lions who they are supposidly replacing in the super series???
π― π― π― π― π― π― π―
Tomorrow they play the Sharks πΏ we should give them 100 and send them packing
π for the Lions it was like taking candy off blind children π π
@robdylan (Comment 42) : Hiyas bro ^5 hows things up is coldville??
Any comments on the potential stadium problems for CT and Durban? http://www.rugby365.com/all_news/sa/news/2846386.htm ?
@sharks_lover (Comment 46) : hey dude…
good thanks. How’s the new arrival?
Listen, going to have to edit some of those previous comments. I know it’s good natured, but some of those words are probably going to raise a few hackles…
Seems the municipalities may finally get their wish in forcing the 2 franchises to move stadium…
“Itβs about getting the right mix with the starting players and those on the bench who can provide that impact.β
Looking ahead to Fridayβs game, Plumtree hopes to have some good opposition from the Kings to prepare as best they can.
Their opponents lost 88-0 to the Lions on Tuesday night but there were no EP players involved and a stronger showing is expected on Friday night.
βIβm hoping it will be physical down there,β said Plumtree.
βWe want a big performance before going into our first Super Rugby game. Boland got pretty tired and hopefully EP will go for 80 minutes and give us a good
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 47) : no – because I know where the discussion will lead.
Let’s wait until something bad actually happens, rather than speculate and cause further doom and gloom
@robdylan (Comment 48) : no problem bro, forgot the C word might offend some thanks
so the lions played the B version of the S/Kings π
@robdylan (Comment 51) : Fair enough… theres not a lot that can really be said. Its not like we are debating whether SBW is a bigger girl in a boxing ring than he is on a rugby field.
@robdylan (Comment 48) : New Arrival is doing great thanks
@sharks_lover (Comment 52) : I should kak on you, but I won’t cos I’m in a good mood π No worries…
@sharks_lover (Comment 55) : excellent man. Always such a blessing hey.
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 54) : not really intentionally ignoring it, but it’s an ongoing spat that seems political in nature, hence not a good fit for this site.
I don’t think I can handle doing another article based on a press release from the Sharks quoting BvZ about how they are “definitely staying at Kings Park”… Feels like I’ve already written that story about 100 times!
@robdylan (Comment 57) : Kings Park is in fine Shape , it’s all about them trying to get us to move to the new stadium,, and i agree Rob, it aint even worth an effort any more, i ain sure about Newlands but you will prolly find it’s the same thing being tried as is the case with the Sharks
@robdylan (Comment 57) : On the really bright side you no longer have to worry about getting Sutcliffe’s side of the story…
We are better off talking about how Paul Jordaan and how he will be slicing through many teams this year
@sharks_lover (Comment 60) : Great prospect… still cant help feeling hes a year or so away. Im more worried about how the opposition may slice through him right now. Last year was a long time ago, but he had some defensive frailties at u20 level. Im worried about how that will translate to superrugby level.
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 61) : Remember the Great Danie Gerber??
Was never a great defender, Micheal 2plus3 used to cover his channel a lot
@sharks_lover (Comment 62) : TouchΓ©, but comparisons between Jordaan and Danie Gerber at this stage are stretching things just a bit π
@sharks_lover (Comment 62) : ja, but who’s going to cover Paul’s?
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 61) : Also Paul has made great strides since getting more Game time, remember he was with 7’s then under20 Boks then injured amd didnt get game time, Last few matches he started relly comming to the fore albeit at 10 and 12, where now i see he is being played at 13
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 63) : oh come on… get with the program eh? π Paul is at least as good as Danie ever dreamed of being…
@robdylan (Comment 64) : I hear ya Rob , his defense however is not that poor and he is prolly no worse a defender then Adi was,
SBW is not always the best defender either for example, normally teams select combo’s that cover for each other. JP for example is a big defender, Odwa not bad either,
@Pablo Dinero (Comment 63) : well of course paul is still a kid but he sure as hell is showing us the same quality danie showed at the same age
π i wonder where Lambie would be had he not been given a chance at a very young age, i mean he has his short commings on attack etc,
I think Oom Naas says it bestest
if you good enough ur old enough π
@sharks_lover (Comment 67) : I’m happy with giving him a few runs as a super sub
@robdylan (Comment 70) : Agree 100% with you, i sure aint saying he should start right now, but as a sub his confidence will grow just being around the senior players
we have some okes moaning about Bosman and MJ, so we call for faster youthfull players to come in, with some speed etc, then they moan he about them too π π π π
Eish us Sharks supporters are never satisfied πΏ π
@robdylan (Comment 70) : whats you gut feel Rob?? think JP will stay at 13??
@sharks_lover (Comment 73) : ja… don’t believe what you read. They’ve been planning this move since last year and everyone has bought into it. It’s not just a “happy accident” that they thought up 5 minutes ago!
@robdylan (Comment 74) : cool boet , well then its good news, i have no doubt, JPP has the class to make it work
@sharks_lover (Comment 75) : ja, me too.
@sharks_lover (Comment 75) : can you believe the oke is still just 25?
@robdylan (Comment 77) : yeah , and its like he has been around forever, he still has atleast 8 years left in him
And jp played 13 at school,then 15 then only wing. Can’t wait to see him and mvovo running havoc… Excited yet nervous
@juba_fan (Comment 79) : I thought he played lock at school?
@robdylan (Comment 80) : thats what i heard too
was also under the impression that he played in the 2nd row,actually think he signes up at the Sharks Academy as a lock and than Dick Muir moved him to wing if my wires aren’t crossed. Old age might be getting to me,but I think that’s how it happened
@Ludz (Comment 82) : that’s my understanding too
Jp played wing in 200s craven week but I can’t find anything that shows he played lock. But in articles on sport24 and supersport they say he played 13 his whole school career. Rob can you maybe try find out for us.
I’d have thought the obvious choice was to play Jenner at 12 and Stevens at 13. I wonder if the threat of JPP at 13 has caused Solomons to shuffle around his midfield?
What make you guys think Earl Rose is a fan favourite in PE, hes horse, dont know why Kings got him in the first place!!!
@pierre_mackie (Comment 86) : welcome to he site pierre!
And the Rose thing was ironic π
Will this game be broadcasted by any chance?
@Letgo (Comment 88) : fraid not, no
To bad , I also missed the Boland game. Would have liked to catch this one. At least the rugby starts oficially next week!
Game day… Let do it boys….
