Bulls centre Wynand Olivier has failed to recover adequately from his, erm, “wrist injury” and is thus considered a doubtful starter for his side’s Super Rugby opener, against the Sharks next week.
Olivier underwent shoulder surgery in the off-season and then compounded the misery by breaking a bone in his wrist earlier this year. With team doctor Org Strauss confirming that he’s still three weeks from fitness, the chances now appear pretty good for young Francois Venter to make his Super Rugby debut in the number 12 jersey next weekend.
There’s better news elsewhere in the Bulls camp, though, with Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Flip van der Merwe and Jacques Potgieter all expected back in training next week after suffering various bumps and bruises during pre-season. Adding further to the selection dilemma at loose forward, Tukkies star Warrick Tecklenberg should also be available after an off-season shoulder operation.

Now that the Bulls play in pink there are 10 things that will change…. 1) One lucky season ticket holder will win a free make-over during half time of each match.2) Fans will no longer be allowed to braai before kick-off, instead fondue stations will be available for snacks.3) The beer tent will no longer sell beer, but a wide variety of fruity drinks will be available.4) The dancing girls will be replaced by a French poodle parade.5) The man of the match will not receive a trophy, but rather a subscription to House and Home magazine.6) The yellow card area will not be referred to as the sin bin, but will now be known as the now the temper tantrum tank. 7) The stadium will change from the Bull-Ring to the Fairy Garden or from Loftus to Moftus. 8) The new mascot will be Daisy the cow. 9) A booth will be provided to exchange those dangerous horned helmets for the more appropriate silk scarf.
