In the first of our local team previews, we have a look at the Bulls team, a team that many are touting to have a difficult season, after having lost so many of their star players. I fear there is bite still left in this team.
The Bulls have always been known for their physical attributes and their strength up front, and that shouldn’t be any different this year, as their forward pack looks good. They might have lost the likes of Gary Botha, Bakkies Botha, Victor Matfield and Danie Rousouw, but in Chiliboy Ralepelle, Flip van der Merwe and Juandre Kruger they have nice backup.
The loose forward stock is pretty much where the Sharks are in terms of depth, with a host of players able to take the field any weekend. Amongst Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Jacques Potgieter, Deon Stegmann, CJ Stander, Arno Botha, Warwick Tecklenburg and even Dan Adongo, it is a difficult decision as to who stays at home.
It is in the backs though that I feel the Bulls are lacking. In Francois Hougaard they have a very exciting scrumhalf, but he is yet to play a full season in this position, and even though I feel he has what it takes to be the next Springbok scrummy, he could be found out at this level. His halfback partner Morne Steyn is well known for his boot, something I feel he uses too much, but this approach has worked for the Bulls in the past, aand we could see it employed again this year. If he can step up and play a more attacking brand of rugby, the rest of the backline will follow suit and we could see some interesting rugby from the men in pink.
The most exciting talent in the backline is the potential centre combination of Francois Venter and Johann Sadie, which we could even see in the first round after the injury to Wynand Olivier.
I predict the Bulls will battle it out for second spot on the SA conference with the Stormers this year, finishing just outside the play off zone, but with a young team, they will be happy to build and dominate in the years to come.

Apparently metrosexual Muzi is now also the “proud” owner of one of the new pink pink sunshine jerseys
@beet (Comment 1) :
He must be so proud..
I hear it comes with a free make-up kit…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : 😆 😆
Talked about Muzi, his awfully quiet this week…
He knows what’s coming 🙂
We should start spreading the word now that the whole stadium should just erupt in laughter when the bulls take to the field in their pink jerseys in Durban at the end of the season. 🙂
Enough with the make up jokes now. so predictable. i am not a big fan of the bulls, but i think the pink looks better than the blue and i would buy one if i where a bulls suporter.Sharks forever.
remember the sharks also played that one game in pink. that looked shit!!!!! black and white, nothing els maters
@Jakes 08 (Comment 6) :
If you don’t like the banter about the pink kit ..then don’t read em …
Muzi’s waiting for the Bulls to do the talking on the field. Friday,you better believe it,going with my beloved Bulls. Bulls by 7 points
@Jakes 08 (Comment 6) :
There is a difference between going pink for an entire season and doing a charity drive for breast cancer..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : They ran out of make-up kits but they are throwing in a free sports bra as I understand it. Will do wonders for the figures of some of those oomies!
@Jakes 08 (Comment 6) : you’re just jealous cos you don’t have one of the jerseys… )
@Ludz (Comment 8) : trying hard to think what it is you like about that jersey.. Still thinking… Nah,sorry.. But perhaps they just need to add some small detail to the jersey to silence the banter from the critics:the 3 superrugby titles they’ve won (to date) 😐
@vanmartin (Comment 10) : Sports bra for a beer-boep. 🙂 Or as it is also known in Pta a “kruiwa”. 😉
@robdylan (Comment 11) : I’m not jealous. 🙂
@KSA Shark © (Comment 13) : :lol:, by the way your new avatar is all kinds of awesome!
