The Reds team to face the Waratahs on Saturday has been announced, as the team from Brisbane start their title defence without one of their star players, Quade Cooper.

Mike Harris takes over the reigns in the pivot position, and the link play between him and Will Genia will prove the deciding factor in how the team goes.

James Horwill will lead the team from the second row, forming part of a tight five that could do really well if they gel. The flanks of Higginbotham and Robinson is exciting and should be a good match up for the Waratahs loosies.

The backline of the Reds, which includes the likes of Digby Ioane, Anthony Faingaa and Luke Morahan could be devastating if put away.

Radike Samo will look to have another big impact coming from the bench.

  • Great to see Schatz back in the thick of things. Really rated this youngster a couple of season back when he was still a teenager.

Also keen to see how Ben Tapuai gets along. He’s shown some promise.

  • David Horwill doesn’t look like a rugby player you want to take seriously but it seems like his influence is huge. 🙂

  • they’ll struggle without cooper, and by the time he gets back it’ll be too late.

  • @MJ (Comment 5) :

    Harris is a decent flyhalf..

Reds to beat the Waratahs convincingly, and go on to record big wins over the Force and Rebels over the next two weeks, and then travel here with a lot of confidence and momentum..

It would be stupid to write them off, one player does not make a team, especially not if the replcement player brings more stability to a team, and can kick better at poles.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : yeah but the reds’s strong point last year was the unpredictabilty of cooper, so I’ll guess we’ll have to wait and see.
