I have a bit of a penchant for silly trivia at the best of times, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed something rather humorous about the Sharks XV front row?
Lining up against the Bulls this afternoon, they’ll of course start with Monde Hadebe at hooker, as Kyle Cooper makes his comeback from injury of the bench. One would expect, though, that Cooper would replace Hadebe as starting rake once the season proper kicks off.
The first choice loosehead is likely to be Danie Mienie and I’m pretty sure that, if not tonight, then at least later in the season he will end up packing down next to Cooper in the front row. You’ve got to feel for anyone trying to scrum against that Mienie-Cooper combination, don’t you?
(Weak, I know, but I simply had to share it!)

I think its funny! π
this reminds me very little of the time I played sevens for Pretoria Harlequins against YSKOR-Teknikon.
Was scrumming against some poor little inbred sod with a flat top… one of those little wirey okes that you just know has got a screwdriver in his ruby sock. Anyway, we were killing these okes in the scrum; they clearly weren’t expecting us to actually push, given that it was sevens. The oke eventually says to me “net omdat ons van YSKOR afkom beteken nie dat ons van staal gemaak is!” or something equally stupid. I replied “Tough – ons is!” and proceeded to hand out the pain all over again π
I really am MUCH nicer these days…
@Letgo (Comment 1) : thank you Letgo π I’m glad I’m not totally alone on this one.
Lucky they’ll have a pair of real “busses” in Jandre and Piet-Steph behind them as well.
π
Weather update: It is very overcast in Pretoria this morn. It will surely rain. The question is long will it last. It may rain out before tonight!! π
@robdylan (Comment 2) :
Brilliant..
@KILLER SHARK (Comment 4) :
We can play in very wet weather i guess the Sharks cme from water so it should be an easy game Bulls on the other hand live on dry land and can’t swim.
(Sharks can swim in wet and dry weather)
Not sure if I am laughing at the wordplay or the fact that you felt it justified a post, but anyway – :lol .
@chaz (Comment 6) : π I would prefer to see a flowing running game from the Sharks rather than fighting for yards in the wet. π π
@chaz (Comment 6) : how do you swim in dry weather, tannie? I mean, just asking… π
@Big Fish (Comment 7) :
π
@Big Fish (Comment 7) : laugh at the headline, if nothing else π
@robdylan (Comment 11) :
Are the headline not discriminatening towards afrikaans-sprekende-mense nie?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 12) : π π π π
If we could find a prop named clubman…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 12) :
Thats allowed under the Geneva Convention. Sorry for you.
@Big Fish (Comment 15) :
So let me get this straight..
I can’t use the swearword d&*@&man, am I at least allowed to say someone has Dutch courage? Or is that also a no no?
@robdylan (Comment 2) : sjoe Rob, I never thought that of you….. π― π― π―
hehe
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 16) :
Dutchman is a valid description – we have had some great artists who were Dutchmen; for example, van Gogh, Rembrandt, Vermeer, NataniΓ«l and Meisiekind.
Dutch apple, Dutch courage and double Dutch are also happy words and may be used, under license.
@Big Fish (Comment 18) :
Ah, but certain of our Afrikaans-speaking-bloggers do not like it when you use the D-man description, as it is a slap in their Afrikaans-speaking-face.
Did you not get the memo?
Love the heading, brilliant π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 19) : Still don’t get that one maar miskien is ek net TE plesierig. π
@robdylan (Comment 9) : dat die stof so staan π
Good stuf Rob
Lame joke of the day winner.
Whatβs up with the heading ? A little derogatory donβt you think? π
@robdylan (Comment 2) : so one is now allowed to insult outside one’s OWN culture/race/religion etc…..?
@bergshark (Comment 27) :
If you don’t see the humour, its best you go read something else!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 28) :knew I’d get the first response from you
@bergshark (Comment 29) :
Lets just sya, its a touchy subject for me..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 16) : We can’t say Dutchman???????? π― π― π― π― π―
Hoekom nie!?!?!?!?!
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 31) :
Its derogatory to certain Afrikaans speaking individuals..
Funny, as both you and me are very much Dutch…. sorry, afrikaans-speaking
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 19) : Ek het nie!!!!!!!!!!
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 31) :
Lucky you changed your profile picture, we might have had a riot on our hands!
@Talent (Comment 26) : No I don’t think at all.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 34) : π
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 32) : Dude as I’ve always maintained being Afrikaans doesn’t make one a Dutchman.
One’s mentality does. π³
I donβt care what ethnicity you are jokes about race and religion should be left alone, no grey areas . It shouldnβt matter if you are an Afrikaans person and you insult your own heritage, it still incites negative and racial confrontation.
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 37) :
Agreed..
And mentality is quite clear here..
@Talent (Comment 38) :
This is not something we want to do.. so let’s just leave it at that..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 32) : I think you are confused..
@Talent (Comment 38) : words of wisdom..
@bergshark (Comment 41) :
And why would that be?
The thing is I grew up in Durban and went to school in Kroonstad both places that gave me a sense of what tolerance is and also a sense of not having to take everything I hear as a personal insult.
I think that is why I was an above average referee because I realised that not everything that I saw on the field was considered a personal affront against me personally.
Lots of people and a few referees out there will do good to take heed of that.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 43) :I’m not gonna play your shrink or guru π
@bergshark (Comment 45) :
Then I suggest you keep your comments to yourself.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 46) :but you can insult others..?
@bergshark (Comment 47) :
Can you do me a massive favour… grow up..
We are all adults here. If YOU feel offended, then leave. You are clearly in the minority here, so if you feel in any way that you are being discriminated against or that Afrikaans jokes go against what you believe in. Leave..
If it is THAT bad here for you, why do you keep coming back?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 48) :
Had my say.. cheers
@bergshark (Comment 47) : Has anyone on here called YOU a Dutchman?
We do not need to take everything that is said as a personal attack.
guys please… you’re not going to agree on this one so please all rather just walk away.
@bergshark (Comment 42) : @Talent (Comment 26) : eish guys moenie so sensitief wees nie, ons boertjies weet mos hoe om dit te vat en uit te deel π
and on a huge note ????????????????????????
πΏ GOOOOOOO SHARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 37) : so true.
π i am under moderation
ok i should be moderated just for my typo’s alone π― π
Rob?? its easier to just delete the post boet π , i was trying to lighten the moment π
@sharks_lover (Comment 57) : I’ve just had a look at your comment.
No need to worry, there is no risk of it being approved. π
@KSA Shark Β© (Comment 58) :
π
Sl, if it’s under moderation, only you can see it π
