Bulls make one change

The Bulls have made a single change to the side that beat the Sharks in Round 1, ahead of their trip to Bloemfontein to take on the Cheetahs this weekend.

Debutant Johann Sadie injured his shoulder in the opening minutes of last weekend’s match and will be out of action for a few weeks as a result; the diagnosis was a grade 1 AC joint tear. Fortunately for coach Frans Ludeke, he has a very experienced man to bring in in Sadie’s place, with fit-again Wynand Olivier named to start in the number 13 jersey.

Young Frans Venter has been retained at 12, despite Olivier’s vast experience in that position.

The run-on side, captained by Pierre Spies, contains 12 test Springboks and only reserve scrumhalf Jano Vermaak has yet to represent the Bulls in Super Rugby (although he has 62 caps for the Lions at this level).

The team to play the Cheetahs is (with Super Rugby caps): 15 Zane Kirchner (55), 14 Akona Ndungane (68), 13 Wynand Olivier (87), 12 Francois Venter (1), 11 Bjorn Basson (26), 10 Morné Steyn (90), 9 Francois Hougaard (30), 8 Pierre Spies (73, c), 7 Jacques Potgieter (1), 6 Deon Stegmann (56), 5 Juandré Kruger (1), 4 Flip van der Merwe (35), 3 Werner Kruger (59), 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle (36), 1 Dean Greyling (16).
Replacements: 16 Willie Wepener (41), 17 Frik Kirsten (3), 18 Wilhelm Steenkamp (37), 19 CJ Stander (1), 20 Jano Vermaak (62), 21 Louis Fouché (1), 22 JJ Engelbrecht (1).

  • Cheetahs to go down by quite some margin.

Yet their fans will still gush all over FB about them being the best team in SA. 😆

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 2) : Like Einstein said, “There are only two constants in life, the speed of light, and human folly, and I’m not sure about the former”
Must’ve met a Cheetah supporter when he said that

  • Suspect the Bulls might keep ball in hand a bit more in this game and manage a 5 point victory..

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 15) : Ben is right to a certain extent. SB and FL have changed the way I watch rugby.

Sometimes I find myself cheering for the ” wrong ” team just cause my margin is close! Had a lot of explaining to do . . .

  • Id like to see Olivier at 13- if he gets put into gaps he runs hard and straight! With JF playing with the ninjas it seems there quite a few experienced guys wanting that Bok 13 jersey!
