The Sharks brand has long been known as one of the most well known Rugby brands internationally, and this is mainly due to how well the Sharks brand has been marketed over the last few years. But for such a well known sporting brand the wikipedia page is poorly written with very little information.
This may seem a very unimportant problem, but for many people wikipedia is a large source of information and is one of the most used sources on the internet.
This is a call to the users of Sharksworld to help with the development of the page by adding as much information as possible. If you have the know how, you can use your extensive Sharks knowledge and add to the page your self, and if not, post whatever you can add as a comment and I will add it to the page. I have created a player profile for all of the players, but these are only very basic profiles, these can also be added to.
The Currie Cup page is – Natal Sharks
The Super Rugby page is – Sharks
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Great idea – will help where I can!
Great idea đ
This is a very cool idea, and the Sharksworld users know their team very well
I agree, great idea.
Thanks Seth, I hope you get the information you are looking for!

I do not know as much as some (most) of the guys on the site, but have tried my hand at a bit of Wiki Edits, the Sharks page especially has a few of my contributions, so I can help with that part if needed
@Die Kriek (Comment 6) :
Awesome!
@Die Kriek (Comment 6) : Thanks , do you know how to add pictures to the site?
good work, champ…. I was just thinking about this the other day and about to pour my anorak-like knowledge into it… but far happier to have someone else coordinating:)
Guys…. should we divide the squad up into chunks? Maybe try agree on a common format for a player profile page?
@robdylan (Comment 9) : I have used the generic player stub for the players, but it is very basic, I also know all the player records are out of date in terms of most caps and that kind of thing.
@Seth101 (Comment 8) : I added one once, but for the life of me, I cannot remember how, will play around a bit today and see if I can get it again
@Die Kriek (Comment 11) : Great, thanks, the page needs some more recent pictures then of us playing the cats!
Any idea where I can get a non-copyrighted pic of last week’s game?
@Die Kriek (Comment 11) : @Richard Ferguson (Comment 4) :Rich can that contact of yours provide us with a few pictures for the site?
@Seth101 (Comment 14) : If we can get pics of the players as well for their individual pages, I prefer action pics, but stills can also do
@Die Kriek (Comment 15) : Would the stills used for their profiles on the Sharks website be copywrited?
@Seth101 (Comment 16) : I have absolutely no idea! We should ask Rob that
Uploading a new picture is one hell of a process! Copyright stuff mostly, which I understand very little of, but once it’s up there, it becomes easy to add it to an article
@Die Kriek (Comment 18) : Are you able to do it? Or is it to complicated?
@Seth101 (Comment 19) : If I can get the right pics, I can try it out
@Seth101 (Comment 16) : the right click button on SR is disabled, so u cannot copy and paste…so I presume it is copy righted…
Have u tried contacting Steve Haag of backpage sport and ask him?
@Ice (Comment 21) :O ja I remember that now, so your probably right, Richard told me he had a contact who had pictures, who I presume was Steve Haag so I’m waiting for a reply from Richard about that.
@Ice (Comment 21) : there are ways around that đ
@lostfish (Comment 23) : Try uploading them without permission
@Die Kriek (Comment 24) : Can try, but they are strict.
Where can I find records of international players who have played for the Sharks? The bit about Juan Martin on the Wiki page was a sore thumb, but instead of deleting it, I want to add a list of internationals who have played for the Sharks. I remember Andy Goode, and I know we had a Fijian wing/flank a few years back, but I can not remember his name
@lostfish (Comment 23) : just drag the pic from the site onto your desktop, that usaully works but wether its legal or not it will be up to you to find out.
@Die Kriek (Comment 26) : Oh, and Plum, must not forget our Kiwi coach was also a player
@Die Kriek (Comment 26) :
The legendary Epi Tioane
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 29) : Thanks Rich, if you can just give me a few more names, I will find the years, nationality etc
@MJ (Comment 27) : @Die Kriek (Comment 24) : @lostfish (Comment 23) : You don’t want the wrath of Mike on you..believe me! đ
@Die Kriek (Comment 26) : I’m not to sure on where you would look for that, I’m sure the Sharksworld knowledge pool would be best.
@Die Kriek (Comment 30) : Would you count Brad Barritt, he is South African born but qualified and playing for England?
@Die Kriek (Comment 26) : epi taione… and he was Tongan…. and a disaster đ
Olivier Roumat and Thierry Lacroix, absolute legends in ’95!!
@rumps (Comment 35) : yup… Lacroix came back in 96 too.
Let’s not forget Tony Brown and Gregor Townshend either.
@robdylan (Comment 36) : and wasn’t there 2 samoan or fiji brothers?
@Ice (Comment 37) : yup… Alex and Andy Tuilagi… but neither played for the senior side, so I don’t think they count.
@robdylan (Comment 38) : Can I list Sharks world as an external site on the wiki page?
@Seth101 (Comment 39) : I will kiss you on any cheek you care to present if you do đ
@robdylan (Comment 40) : Ha Ha I will do it if you spare me from the kisses đ
I have researched the names, made sure of nationality, spelling and dates, and added them to the list, if anyone can give some feedback
@robdylan (Comment 38) : Why did we not use the Tuilagis? They’re a monster family!!!
What happened to my post above????
I asked why we didn’t play the Tuilagis and what year they were at the Sharks??
@ChrisS (Comment 44) : I can not find records of any Tuilagi playing for the Sharks. I did find the list of brothers though, monster family indeed! 6 of them, 5 have played World Cup rugby, 4 for Samoa, one for England (imagine facing your own brother in an international game)
@Die Kriek (Comment 45) : Hectic family!!! They could breed their own rugby team!!!!
@ChrisS (Comment 44) : what post?
@robdylan (Comment 47) : I edited comment 43 and it came back as a whole lot of code and then reverted to the normal post when I refreshed but without the changes I’d made when I edited.
@Die Kriek (Comment 45) : Looks Good, there is a little mess up which i will fix, have you or anyone else done any editing on the player profiles?
@Seth101 (Comment 49) : None yet, will look into that next week, maybe reword their Sharks bio a pit and paste it in
@Die Kriek (Comment 50) : Good idea, but there is not much in their Bio, its just a short thing.
@Seth101 (Comment 51) : It’s a starting point, from there we can research and ask around. I have a suggestion for that part, you can do a post once a week with 3 player’s names, and the info we have so far, then the sharksworlders can add if they know something
@Die Kriek (Comment 52) : That’s a good idea, but there has to be more input from other Sharks world members.
@Seth101 (Comment 53) : That’s why I suggested we do something like that weekly, so we can get continuous input
I think it’s a good idea… We all know lots, but we don’t know where to start… If the ‘core team’ here can give us some direction, we can start dumping what we know.
Let’s do a series of ‘brainstorming articles’ where we literally just collect all the info we can get about individual players, seasons, etc… What you guys think?
@robdylan (Comment 55) : That was the idea yes, no more than 3 players per article, don’t want an info overload
@Die Kriek (Comment 56) : sounds good, Do an article for players and an article for seasons, with 3 players an article and a season or two an article?
@Die Kriek (Comment 56) :Do you want to write the articles or should I? And with the players it only needs to be the younger players, as most of the older ones have a full profile already.
@Seth101 (Comment 58) : let’s start with the ones that have no profiles, I agree… once we’ve got those done, we can start updating and correcting the profiles of the seniors guys
@robdylan (Comment 59) : Ok well I will write one with Jordaan, Whitehead and Marcell? And should I do one for a season, say the 1st season the sharks participated in Superrugby (what was it, like the super 10 or something)?
@Seth101 (Comment 60) : yes, that sounds fine… the first season was 1993…super 10. Will be fun trying to dig out the info about that one, but I still remember some of the games quite clearly.
The idea is to throw it open to the readers to submit as much info as they can remember about that season (and those players) which can then be consolidated into a decent wikipedia entry.
Man, this is such a good idea Seth. I’m really excited about it.
@Seth101 (Comment 60) : You can do the articles, since you already have author privaliges. Lets do the seasons backwards, start with 2011 and go back. Most recent is what people are most interested in
@robdylan (Comment 61) : This wil be very fun! A bit of work, but fun! Relive the memories and improve the reach of our team!
@Die Kriek (Comment 62) : I don’t have author privaliges but it gets posted for me. But let’s just confirm, because you say most recent and Rob says older? I think older is better, we know the recent stuff but it would be nice to read up on the older stuff, plus there is recent stuff on the pages already.
@Die Kriek (Comment 63) : Sorry to go against what you said, but I did write in my article to start with the older seasons just because there is less available information on these. đ
@Seth101 (Comment 65) : Fair enough, that you did! We will start with the oldest. And please don’t apologise, we are a team in this, we make suggestions, some get used, some don’t, I’ve had way too many brainstorms to feel bad when idea gets shot down.
If you could get something up today, we can let it run the weekend, see what we get, start editing on Monday
@Die Kriek (Comment 66) : ok good, just didn’t want to seem like I’m deciding, I have writen it and emailed it through so it should be up soon. I wrote for the firs season, oncve that is up I will write for the first players.
@Seth101 (Comment 67) : Cool, I’m really excited about this, will be good to have our team so well exposed! Are we going to do separate articles for each season, or just one ‘History of Sharks in Super rugby’ article with a paragraph or 3 and a few stat boxes per season?
Another proposal, the one page is supposedly for Super Rugby, the other for Currie Cup, and although mostly about the relevant tournament, there is a lot of cross referencing between the two.
I suggest we merge the two pages, making one overhead ‘The Sharks’ page, with two separate articles for the histories
@Die Kriek (Comment 69) : I have had that idea as well, but I think that there has to be more input on that decision, as we did not create the pages, plus almost all the south african teams have to pages, but it does seem a lot more logical to do that, also if it is done the page must be structured properly.
@Seth101 (Comment 70) : Yes, the current format does look a bit messy.
@Die Kriek (Comment 71) : Ok I think we should do it, are you willing to start it off? Put the page together in a basic format, I think we should use the super rugby one because it is more structured, then u will have to remove all information from the old page so that it is no longer a page on wikipedia. I am bust at the moment but if you can start it off I will do some work on it tomorrow?
I don’t have internet at home atm, can only do edits at work, if you can set up the two main history pages tomorrow I can do the merge on Monday
Well I can do the merge my self tomorrow, should I just put it together in a basic way and then you can sort it out on monday?
