The Sharks can report clear bill of health after the weekend’s loss to the Stormers, with no injuries sustained. More good news is the progress of the injured players, as they creep closer to full fitness.

Most notably, Willem Alberts is likely to be involved in the match against the Lions this weekend, after being declared medically fit to play last weekend, and having the full week to train this week, we should see the Bone Collector back in the Black and White at the Tank this weekend.

Both Tim Whitehead and Odwa Ndungane will train on Tuesday and will come into the selection picture ahead of the clash with the Lions. One gets the feeling the Ndungane will come straight into the side for Louis Ludik, who has not impressed on the wing. Whether Whitehead takes the 12 jersey back from Bosman immediately remains to be seen.

Jean Deysel and Conrad Hoffmann are both on the mend and could see action within the next three to four weeks, and it will be interesting to see which of them gets the nod to tour with the squad in two weeks time.

As for the longer term injuries, Ryan Kankowski’s hand operation went well while Al Hargreaves will be in a moon boot for at least another two to three weeks. Tendai ‘The Beast” Mtawarira is out of the moon boot and is recovering well, while Julian Redelinghuys is doing well and going for hyperbaric treatment.

  • Thank goodness! We need a bit of muscle to suck in defenders! Liked out up-tempo style this weekend though!

  • A few things I feel I should comment on after watching the game several more times.

I feel I may have been a bit harsh on Keegan on the weekend, in the first half he was immense, but was let down by a few errors he made in the 2nd half.

Jpp has proven to be a great success at 13 ,he adds some creativity and unpredictability to our backline ,he is such a gem with ball in hand and compliments the inside work of Bosman and Lambie superbly while still combining extremely well with the back 3. I had my concerns about his passing but he has been the standout 13 in SA by some distance.

Marcell Coetzee has been immense and at some point Plumtree is going to have to make some heavy calls regarding 7/8/19 . I feel that Marcell should be played at 8 when Albert’s returns and Kanko /Deysel should be on the bench.

  • @Talent (Comment 5) : I agree with all of that…. can’t see Marcell being dropped for Hoff right now.

  • @Talent (Comment 5) : I’d go for Deysel on the bench as he can steal a bit as well as being an effective ball-carrier! He’d be a like-for-like switch with Alberts!

  • @ChrisS (Comment 7) : what about Botes?

  • @robdylan (Comment 8) : Yip Botes, for me, was again really good. He’s a smart player, he puts himself in the right place for good runs from first receiver, he’s always around for an offload or a clean out, It would be hard to see a player like him left out completely.

  • When Deysel is fit, it will be very interesting to see how they manage the trio… Deysel and Alberts should rotate starting and bench roles to keep them minty. Don’t need your battle wagons to be battle worn. Deysel will be hoping for a big season to live up to the reputation he created in 08/09 so guessing he will be really abrasive. Which is a lovely thought. Coetzee is a revelation, and should pip the Hoff for the number 8 jersey. Good times are here again… Forward march!

  • Personally, I still prefer Alberts at 8 for now. He’s done it before, and as long as we have a fragile front row, I’d like him carrying the ball up off a defensive scrum.
