Since there are no real milestones coming up this week (well, a few little ones here and there) I’ve thought of something different to do.
Let’s have a look at the statistics of the team picked to play this round in a handy cut-out-and-keep tabular format that we can all enjoy for years to come!
Or something like that! Congrats this week to Willem Alberts, Lwazi Mvovo and Louis Ludik, in line for cap number 30, 25 and 20 respectively! Also, let’s hold thumbs for Jandre Marais, who will make his debut if he comes on.

Career Caps includes Super Rugby caps for other teams

Can you believe Botes is just two tries behind JP Pietersen..
Amazing try scoring record!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : tell you what, we underestimate what a legend we have in Botes
@robdylan (Comment 2) :
The day he retires will be a sad day indeed..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 3) : they’ve managed him well the last few years… I thought 2011 was his swansong, but he’s back with a real bang so far this season
Burden only has 26 caps?! 😯
Ok, that’s SR caps. Not that surprising. Sorry 😳
@StevieS (Comment 5) : crazy, isn’t it?
This is about the 4th Super Rugby season in a row that the oke has been in the squad, but not used.
@robdylan (Comment 7) : A crying shame!
What’s your opinion Rob? Should he have stayed in the backline or perhaps moved to flank?
@StevieS (Comment 8) : or gone to the Lions when Dick Muir wanted him to… he would have been their starting hooker for the last 2 seasons.
Look, the issue here is that Dick started something and then didn’t stick around to finish it. It was the same thing with moving Beast from flank to prop… at least it didn’t take quite as long for that one to work out and Plum was at least supportive of the move.
I can’t really convince myself that Plum has been supportive of Bruce’s move to hooker. If that was the case, he would have played him more often.
Didn’t Riaan Viljoen get Super Rugby caps with the Cheetahs (Griquas were part of the squad)?
@markm (Comment 10) :
I’m assuming that these caps are for the Sharks only..
@robdylan (Comment 9) : Thanks for the insight Rob.
Have a great weekend. I’m off to Dullstroom for some fly-fishing.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 11) : yes, correct.
If anyone can find a cheetahs site/archive that lists how many caps Viljoen and Bosman gained for them, I can include those
@StevieS (Comment 12) : hope they rise well!
Great stuff 😎
Thank you this is exactly what I needed for Wikipedia
I like the new Full Log 😎
@Seth101 (Comment 16) : HA 🙂 Good point
I don’t suppose you could get the players super rugby and currie cup tries/points, seperatly?
@Seth101 (Comment 19) : the above is only Super Rugby. Currie Cup is not included.
You know that the Sharks website has all of that, though?
Robdylan I am not sure about Riaan, but I saw before the match on the TV that last week Meyer was in line for cap 80, and he played for a while. So he is in line for 81. Riaan also played a few caps in the Freestate. Im sure you can get that information from Supersport, because they show the caps every week before the game.
@springbok (Comment 21) : ja, that’s right… thanks.
I will see what I can do
@robdylan (Comment 2) : In 2011 Botes looked well off the pace but he has clearly done the hard yards in the off season and looks in a lot better condition than he has for the last couple years. Im afraid i think the opposite of Keegan Daniel this year…he just seems distracted or something,same as Jannie. I wonder how many caps Burden would have if he was still a centre??
Spare a thought for our scrum in the first few games of the season – the 2 props started off with 5 caps between them. Considering that and not having Alberts’s bulk in the bulls game, I think they have done damn well against strong opposition.
YES, YES, YES – SACHIN YOU BEAUTY. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
100 centuries in international cricket – history made, and not to be repeated in a hurry, if ever.
Thanks Rob great to see Lambie top the scores
i just a couple of years shows what a legend he is
use this for stats from this site http://www.itsrugby.co.uk/player-2907.html,
Meyer has it seems like 59 super rugby caps for the cheetahs.
Riaan Viljoen , http://www.itsrugby.co.uk/player-2457.html, and it seems like he has the following 32 super rugby caps for the cheetahs.
Dunx your statistics are wrong on Riaan and Meyer. Those stats is only when they start a match. A player also get a cap what he comes on as a reserve. On that web Riaan only played 18 for cheetahs but that is without the reserve caps, and Meyer 51 without reserve caps. Enjoy match tomorrow
According to those, I count 26 Cheetahs caps for Viljoen
@robdylan (Comment 30) : What about Ludik, Alberts, Jannie, Bismarck and Whitehead? Didn’t all of them play SupeRugby games for other teams as well? 😆
ok sorry then, thats why included where i sourced it, if i find any other statistic keeping websites i will post.
@Ben (Comment 31) : not Bismarck.
Ok, let me update.
is that better?
we tend to forget that Odwa has 10 Super 12 caps for the Bulls too.
@robdylan (Comment 34) : Completely forgot about Odwa Rob.
@Ben (Comment 35) : do you prefer the updated format?
@robdylan (Comment 36) : Looks great yes. Thanks.
