Bad news for Skeate

Ross Skeate, who’s been keeping us up to date with his ongoing neck injury via Twitter, had bad news to share with the fans after seeing a specialist yesterday.

When Skeate was diagnosed with a bulging disc in his neck – shortly after recovering from the groin strain that forced him off the field early against the Lions – the initial plan was to rest him and monitor the problem. It was hoped that, should the issue abate on its own, he may have been in line to join the Sharks tour squad a few weeks late. These hopes were dashed yesterday as it turns out the lanky former WP man requires an operation to repair the damage.

There’s no current indication as to how long Skeate will be out of action – his tweets only say “a while” – but I have a nasty feeling we may just have seen the last of him for the 2012 Super Rugby season, which is a real shame since he was starting to hit some good form.

Hope the op goes well, Ross and hope to see you back as soon as possible.

  • Bad news! I suppose that extra spot on tour will go to Deysel then.

  • That sucks but the silver lining is we’ll probably see quite a bit more of young master Jandre.

  • Bummed out about this. Initially I was far from overjoyed at the news that the Sharks were contracting Skeate, but I am happy to say that his performances on the pitch has forced me to reconsider my stance, so much so that he’s now one of my favourite forwards.

All the best with your recovery Ross!
