Former Bishops pupil Sam Lane has joined the Reds on a short-term contract, according to a SAPA report.

Lane, who is the son of former Wallaby Tim, is currently 21 and played some junior rugby for Western Province before leaving to play in Australia earlier this year. His father is a well-known coach, who has spent time helping both the Springboks and the Cats in the past, before heading to France and later Georgia, where he currently coaches the national side.

Lane Junior has apparently started training with the Queensland team this week after Jono Lance became just the latest back to suffer an injury, breaking his leg against the Bulls at Loftus. Dallan Murphy endured a nightmare debut at flyhalf after being called in following injuries to three other flyhalves.

The Reds take on the Western Force in Perth this weekend and will be desperate to avoid a third straight defeat.

  • Sam was actually 4th choice last year and ahead of Kurt Coleman in the Stormers pecking order.

He was injured at the time we had our flyhalf crisis! 🙄
