Lions team to be announced late

Take note, Fantasy Leaguers… due to their crippling injury list, the Lions have suggested that their team to face the Crusaders on Saturday will only be named on Friday, a day before the match. This will, in all likelihood, happen after the round 6 close on, so you may need to take a bit of a punt if you have any Lions players in your squad. I’m sure somebody does…

There’s a bit of better news, though, for John Mitchell, in that all of Elton Jantjies, Alwyn Hollenbach and Lionel Mapoe are at least possibles for this weekend’s game, with the trio set to face late fitness tests on Thursday ahead of the team announcement. Should all three be passed fit, the Lions may all of a sudden be able to field close to a first-choice backline against the umpteen-time-champions. The return of Mapoe, in particular, would be a boon for the home side as it would allow Jaco Taute to return to the fullback position in which he has excelled over the first few rounds.

Mitchell will be hoping to be able to include some experienced players in the line up, following the loss of vice captain Doppies la Grange to a serious elbow injury.

  • I hope they are fit, we really need them

  • Lions Vodacom side announced, so you can possibly surmise who will be in the Super 15 team. No place for Killian in Super 15 side anymore and nice to see young Ruan Botha back from injury.

Ruan Combrinck, Anthony Volmink, Bradley Moolman, Robert de Bruyn (capt.), Michael Killian, Marais Schmidt, Ross Cronje, JJ Gagiano, Ruan Lerm, Stephan de Witt, Ruan Botha, Paul Willemse, Ruan Dreyer, Francois du Toit, Wessel du Rand. Replacements: Edgar Marutlulle, Van Zyl Botha, Hendrik Roodt, Ettienne Oosthuizen, Rudy Paige, Guy Cronje, JR Esterhuizen.

  • I see that the Lions are trying to get JP Nel on a short term deal

  • Killian isn’t as good as he was last year, he needs to regain his form and that’s why he is playing Vodacom cup, he needs to work on the high balls because against the Sharks he was terrible in that department

  • Good to see Ruan Botha back for the Vodacom Team.
    Isn’t Marais Schmidt a fullback?
Hendrik Roodt now relegated to the bench. We talked about this last week but really what is going on with him?
