In an effort to bulk up their pack, the Stormers have named Rynhardt Elstadt on the flank in their team to face the Bulls at Newlands this weekend.

Elstadt, who was the regular 4 lock last season before an injury in the Super Rugby semi-final ruled him out up until a few weeks ago, has made his return via two performances for the WP Vodacom Cup side, but has been unable to unseat his understudy, Eben Etzebeth, from the number 4 jersey. Instead, it’s the impressive Nick Koster who makes way for Elstadt at blindside flank.

Nizaam Carr drops out of the match 22 as a result, whilst there’s a welcome return to the 22 for reserve hooker Deon Fourie as well. Fourie, who has played no Super Rugby yet this season due to injury, replaces Scarra Ntubeni in the number 16 jersey.

Stormers: 15 Joe Pietersen, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Jean de Villiers (captain), 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Peter Grant, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Rynhardt Elstadt, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Andries Bekker, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Brok Harris, 2 Tiaan Liebenberg, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Replacements: 16 Deon Fourie, 17 Frans Malherbe, 18 De Kock Steenkamp, 19 Nic Koster, 20 Louis Schreuder, 21 Burton Francis, 22 Gerhard van den Heever.

  • Shocked!!!!!!! So when Burger comes back Kolisi or Koster will drop out of the 22,I’m afraid that Etzebeth has taken the no.4 jersey from Elstadt, while I feel Elstadt was very good at lock last year, think this is the right decision to retain Etzebeth,he’ll be a Bok by the end of this year

  • @Ludz (Comment 5) : Kolisi will definitely drop to the bench for Schalk, he is the team captain and Siya normally wears the 7 jersey anyways.

Elstadt was ok’ish at 7 but only really shone when donning number 4. This is going to be one physical game, maybe Coetsee has it right having Koster as the bench option to come on when there are some broken players on the field

  • Excellent Stormers team. Korster has been a waiste of space and would have preferred Carr on the bench above him.

    Stormers pack
    8. Duane Vermeulen (1,93m 116kg)
    7. Rynhardt Elstadt (1,98m 118kg)
    6. Siya Kolisi (1,87m 101kg)
    5. Andries Bekker (2,08m 120kg)
    4. Eben Etzebeth (2,03m 120kg)
    3. Brok Harris(1,83m 119kg)
    2. Tiaan Liebenberg (1,82m 110kg)
    1. Steven Kitshoff (1,83m 120kg)

  • @Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 9) : I actually also like Flip,he had a great 2010,but a poor 2011,hope he can kick on from the promise he showed in 2010 this year, remember watching Etzebeth at Craven Week in 2009 and I said to one of my mates that Etzebeth would play Super 14 rugby at the time,by the time he’s 21,turns out I was spot on @PaarlBok (Comment 10) : not a chance,Koster a waste of space,Koster has done pretty well this year, certainly doesn’t deserve to be dropped

  • @Ludz (Comment 14) : Exactly, I still remember him from 2010, I’m willing to forget 2011 if he can get his form back, remember this a Bulls player I’m supporting so this isn’t easy for me.

Never really rated Koster all that highly and I am very happy for the lad that he is playing some good rugga.

  • My biggest worry for the Stormers is that we dont have a specialise fetcher. Pretty sure thats the main reason why we struggle to score tries. Struggle meaning we dont get turn overs from rucks and also cant string phases together. The only turn overs we get is TH scrums (Habs try on the weekend). I am also very satisfied with our tight five at the moment. We havent had a good one for years but with the youngster fatties like Ginga and Malherbe and Etsebeth we can only improve as they gain experience. The last thing I am very satisfied is our defense. Its the best in the competition and the sole reason why we havent lost and is at the top of the log.

If we can get quick ball and build phases, we will be unstopable and to get this we need Ruaan Litshoff or the x Ikey captain or even Helmut Lehman from Maties.

  • Not worried about Pierre Spies at number 8 this weekend so far he has done an outstanding job as captain.

As for the Bishops wonderkind Nick Koster i give up 🙄 when will Ludz and co realise Koster is overrated.

Wake up and smell the coffee he does not cut it at this level maybe he will be great as an impact player.

Kolisi,Carr,Arno,Marcell and Stander have more potential than Koster.

  • Elstadt will help a lot tho. I want to see him and Etsebeth bruising that pienk Brutes at ruck and breakdowns. Elstadt have always been quick at breakdowns, good cleanout at rucks and an excellent defender. Etsebet, Kolisi and Elstadt will play a huge role with our youngster fatties on saturday.

  • Looking at the stormers pack Oom Allister wants to play WWE Wrestling rugby.

Without a doubt the stormers have an awesome pack of forwards who are great defensively but a bore on attack.

My beloved Bulletjies like Mark Keohane said “Don’t change a thing ”

Pink Bulle speel boytjies lets play our winning rugby.

Koster dont do it for me Kleitie, he got isolated a few times against the Lions last weekend and the other Robertson laaitie, Elstadt need to get his chance now. He have prove his value last year on this level.

If the stormers want to score tries then i suggest you call up JP Du Plessis from the WP vodacom cup side.

Imo he is the best junior centre at WP way more talented than Juan De Jong.

When i played against that guy in 2009 he gave our school a lesson about side stepping. 😯

Just remember the name Jan Serfontein from Grey College who is already playing vodacom cup rugby and training with Spies and co.

Look at my early post, we need to build phases(forwards cleaning rucks) and turn over pill (fetcher flanker) to give it to the backs. There is nothing wrong with our backs, vokoli.

It’s crucial the Pink Bulletjies win because when i go watch Paarl Boys at St Johns College after having a word with a gulpile player,he will just tell me like every other junior player around the country.
