The Sharks XV side to take on SWD in round 4 of the Vodacom Cup has been named, with very few changes to the outfit that recorded a bonus point victory over Free State a week ago.
The elevation of Jean Deysel – who started and captained last week – to the Sharks Super Rugby group opens up a spot at blindside flank for local boy Bry Stander. Stander started both of the first two games, against Border and WP and scored a try in the opener to boot. Lubablo Mtembu – or Tera to his mates – has been rewarded for his good form over the last three rounds by taking over as captain. He will be the fourth skipper in as many weeks for eh XV, something which coach Sean Everitt may want to look at in terms of greater continuity.
Current SA under-20 squad member Khaya Majola, who like Stander attended Westville Boys High, comes onto the bench as loose forward cover.
The match, which takes place on KP2, kicks off at 16h30 on Friday and is completely free. Please get down to the field and support the future of Sharks rugby.

4 Captains 4 weeks π
ok, so somebody tell me what the following three players have in common:
Mjekevu
Hoffmann
Dannhauser
Jandre Marais was captain for the 1st game and then he got called up to the Super Rugby team.
Monde Hadebe was captain in the 2nd game but found himself on the bench for the 3rd game.
Jean Deysel captaining the 3rd game and now he is in Australia with the Sharks.
Tera will be a good captain I think.
WBHS is the most-represented school, with 3 π
Queens has 2. Both head boys.
So does Glenwood.
So does Grey Bloem.
So does Paarl Boys High.
@robdylan (Comment 2) : Went to the same school?
@Ben (Comment 5) : nope… KES, Paarl Boys High and Pionier
@robdylan (Comment 6) : Was a guess. π
Same eye colour π
@robdylan (Comment 2) : All three are injury-prone, none of them can rock a proper mullet, easy to misspell their surnames???? π
Well done Terra Mthembu,former Dalian 1st XV captain
@robdylan (Comment 2) : My guess is they’ve all played Superugby before, i know Hoffman and Mjkw… Mjekevu have…
@Ben (Comment 7) : those are the only 3 members of the 22 that didn’t come through the Sharks Academy.
@robdylan (Comment 12) : That is impressive! π―
@robdylan (Comment 12) : π
@robdylan (Comment 12) : Exactly what I meant to say. π
@robdylan (Comment 4) : Allan Dell headboy and 1st XV captain,Border Craven Week captain and SA Schools/SA u18 vice captain (all in 2010). Sbura Sithole prefect(not headboy) and 1st XV captain,Border Craven Week captain. So the Sharks XV have two very capable leaders in that side
@Ludz (Comment 16) : Thanks that’s good to know.
@robdylan (Comment 12) : where does Dannhauser come from?
@VanWilder (Comment 18) : he’s an Empangeni boy, but came up the hard way via the club ranks (and Tussen die Lyne)
@Ben (Comment 15) :
liegbek! π
@Ludz (Comment 16) : we’re churning this blokes out for the Sharks Academy neh? i wish the Kings academey & the newly relocated & renamed Border Rugby academy get their act together to stem the flow of talent to natal.
@wpw (Comment 20) : that picture is banned on this site π
the other interesting stat is that Conrad Hoffmann at 24 is the oldest player in the squad.
@robdylan (Comment 12) : @robdylan (Comment 23) : Now all we need is some silverware to push those stats from great to freakin’ outstanding status.
@Culling Song (Comment 24) : for sure
@robdylan (Comment 19) : Pionier is in Vryheid, maybe he is a graduate of the Zululand academy.
@Salmonoid (Comment 26) : ah cool… that’s right… pretty close to Dundee.
It’s a very small school and Jors did well to make KZN Craven Week coming from there.
@robdylan (Comment 27) :
Pionier isn’t that small at all and they are very competitive in schools rugby. It’s a lot bigger than Dundee High School
@robdylan (Comment 27) : @Pokkel (Comment 28) : I think Pionier has taken over as the rugby school in the Vryheid region. Vryheid High School used to be a very strong rugby school but I think Pionier is now seen as the rugby school. Pionier has produced some of the countries best schools 7s sides recently.
