Le Roux returns for Sharks swansong – April Fools!

In an exclusive interview with Sharksworld last night, former Bok prop Ollie le Roux has confirmed that he has received an urgent call-up to join the Sharks tour party and will meet up with them ahead of this weekend’s game against the Hurricanes.

“I got the call from Plum after the Brumbies game”, said le Roux from the airport in Bloemfontein, “he’s worried about the amount of rugby that Dave Chadwick has been playing this season and wants another oke there to play loosehead this weekend.

“I know that things didn’t end so well with me and the Sharks, but it was always a big disappointment that I finished my Super Rugby career there without scoring more points with the boot. My only successful kick at that level was the conversion I took against the Hurricanes back in 98, so it will be nice to get another chance to play them again. Hopefully I can convince Plum to let me be first-choice goal-kicker this weekend.”

While concerns will be raised about le Roux’s level of fitness, given that he hasn’t played competitive rugby in some years, the big prop is sure he’ll last the pace. “Look, I may weigh 140kg now and spend more time in the Bloemfontein Wimpy than I do at Virgin Active, but Plum knows that only a fool would think he can get through all of April with only one loosehead in his squad”.

We’ll bring you reaction from the squad once Ollie lands in Wellington.

  • I can’t believe it and on April fools, the Sharks must be desperate and on an unrelated subject Luke Watson has been confirmed as the new Bok captain

  • A bit too far-fetched even for April 1.

  • Rob you should have gone with this. Marius Joubert is getting a 2 year extension to his contract and will now be with the Sharks until the end of the 2014 season. That would have had people pissed! 😆
