The Cheetahs have returned home from a successful tour of Australia and New Zealand, and they are straight back into the action as they host the Lions in a match that is the reverse fixture of the opening round game, which the Lions edged.

The Cheetahs have made only one change to their line-up, bringing in Ashley Johnson for Justin Downey, a move that set alight the match against the Hurricanes last weekend, and in the time that Johnson was on the park, the Cheetahs managed to outscore the Canes and win a memorable match.

This should be a rather entertaining match, and a nice ‘curtain raiser’ to the main event, which is the Bulls hosting the Crusaders at Loftus.

Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Ryno Benjamin, 13 Robert Ebersohn, 12 Andries Strauss, 11 Willie le Roux, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Piet van Zyl, 8 Philip van der Walt, 7 Ashley Johnson, 6 Heinrich Brüssow, 5 Izak van der Westhuizen, 4 George Earle, 3 WP Nel, 2 Adriaan Strauss (captain), 1 Coenie Oosthuizen

Substitutes: 16 Hercu Liebenberg, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Andries Ferreira, 19 Justin Downey, 20 Tewis de Bruyn, 21 Sias Ebersohn, 22 Philip Snyman

  • Only Naka would have not started AJ from the start of the season. After all, he also couldn’t find a starting spot for Kabamba Floors even when he was a Bok. 🙄
