More bad news for Wepener

The Bulls have named an unchanged side for this weekend’s clash against the Crusaders, with neither Deon Stegmann nor Willie Wepener passed fit.

Stegmann’s hamstring injury continues to linger, ruling him out for a fourth week now, but it’s Wepener who will be causing the bigger concern for the Bulls coaches; the reserve hooker has apparently been diagnosed with some sort of mystery virus that attacks the facial muscles (or something like that – sounds like a case for Dr House, if you ask me!). The prognosis seems a little unclear, but it sounds like he could be out of action for anything between a few more weeks to a few months.

CJ Stander will continue in the somewhat unfamiliar role of open side flank against the Crusaders, with Arno Botha and Bongi Mbonambi the young players benefiting from an extended inclusion on the bench.

15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies (captain), 7 Jacques Potgieter, 6 CJ Stander, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Dean Greyling

Substitutes: 16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 19 Arno Botha, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Louis Fouche, 22 JJ Engelbrecht
