Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis has been issued an off-field yellow card for his open-handed slap to the face of Hurricanes loose forward Carl Lowe during yesterday’s game.
An all-in brawl late in the second half saw numerous players getting involved, but unsurprisingly, the only evidence found on review was du Plessis’s strike, notwithstanding a fair few shots going in from a number of players in yellow as well.
The citing officer reviewed the video footage, as directed by the white card shown by ref Glen Jackson at the time of the incident and found that Jannie’s transgression was not deserving of a red card, issuing him yellow instead. The card will be added to the player’s record, but crucially for his team, will not mean any suspension. With the final tour game against the Blues coming up, the Sharks could scarcely afford to lose their most experienced prop.

I stand to be corrected, however I thought that the white card was issues to both teams? If so one wanders if they even bothered to look at the team in yellow. I distinctly remember one player chasing JPP attaching him and pinning him to the ground. I though retaliation was also punishable?
again the old cheatin kiwi’s show their hand 😉
but glad jannie can play
Bryce Jackson is a dirty bastard 👿
@JarsonX (Comment 4) : And so is the Hurricanes 👿
@JarsonX (Comment 5) : 😆
@Bkkboet (Comment 1) : Jannie was retaliating like he usually does. He is lucky he didn’t get sent off.
Pity he didn’t get some sort of punishment. He needs a serious attitude adjustment.
And maybe a bloody haircut.
Still one of my least favorite players nationwide.
Looked like retaliation to me. And poor old JPP had a bit of a diklip too.! In the sense of the other team not being punished, I am glad that this is the outcome then.
It was clearly the Canes player that started this whole brawl.
Anyhow Jannie only slapped the guy.. 😛 should not have though. Players let that useless ref get to them. Think the frustration got tempers to fly. Sharks should keep their emotions in check and not let the ref get to them. That was our downfall letting the ref get to us, with that a team loses all focus.
I remember Rory slapping (think it was a Landers player) and he was sent off in 2009. Then again that player really milked it by falling down and rolling all over the damn place.
Maybe the ref should have got a klap too…..hahaha. 😎 🙂 He was useless as much as Bryce used to be with the Sharks.
@sharks_lover (Comment 2) : For sure.
@JarsonX (Comment 4) : Bwaahaaaa. 🙂
@Puma (Comment 11) : you mean this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdjQpFNqV8E
😆
@siorc (Comment 13) : Yip that was the one.
Old brain working okay…hehe. Remembered right, it was a Lander player. What a ‘oscar’ performance he put on there after the slap… hehe
Best slap ever for me was 2007 when Anton van Zyl dived over a maul to slap Kockett in the Currie Cup and Kockett looked at him like what did I do to deserve that, think it was the semi in Durban Lions v Sharks
@siorc (Comment 13) : LEGENDARY!!! 😎
so sad that every official missed the punching by the cane lock he threw punches numerously
hi,first comment.With all the super rugby going on,ever sit down and wonder how the sa selectors will overcome their headaches when choosing a springbok side,I think that we,this year,have a lovely blend of youngsters and experienced players
@clarkville (Comment 18) : welcome to the site!
@clarkville (Comment 18) : Welcome to Sharksworld! Very good point you’re making, at the moment the biggest headache in my view is Patric Lambie, not whether to pick him or not, but where to play him. He is doing some excelent work at fh for the Sharks, and is making the black 10 jersey his own when fit
@Ben (Comment 16) :
No friend, thats not LEGENDARY.
Let me show you the day that a little South African scrumhalf by the name of Norman Jordaan stepped into the realm of myth:

3 players, 2 of whom are forwards, get free lie-downs.
Now THAT is LEGENDARY. 😆
the great thing about Patrick lambie is his heart,not the biggest but definitely has the heart of a rugby player,at to me that is what we are missing at the Sharks
@Big Fish (Comment 21) : Brilliant 😆
