Nake Drotske has told the Volksblad newspaper that he will select Sias Ebersohn to start the match against the Chiefs this weekend, whether Johan Goosen recovers from his injury or not. Further, he will drop Ashley Johnson to the bench as he feels the player is best suited to an impact player role.
Johnson had a poor game against the Lions last week, and in the previous game, where he came from the bench in the first half already, changed the match for the then travelling Cheetahs, as they came from behind to beat the Hurricanes.
Goosen went down in the Cheetahs’ match against the Lions with a shoulder injury, with Ebersohn getting a decent amount of time on the park. He will now start against the Chiefs and add to his very little game time so far this season, coming onto the park in the dying minutes of every other Cheetahs game thus far.
A final decision on whether Goosen will sit on the bench will be taken on Friday.
