Sharks (fans) feeling the Blues

I’m sure most of us are starting to feel the blues by now, with the Sharks only able to win 3 of their first 7 games so far in this year’s Super Rugby competition. (Blues – a feeling of depression or deep unhappiness).

The Sharks are playing the Blues this Friday in Auckland and we can only hope that things will be a lot different than last week.

A quick look at previous results vs the Blues since 2006

Sharks 26 v Blues 12 26/02/11
Sharks 23 v Blues 10 24/04/10
Blues 31 Sharks 35 07/03/09
Blues 17 Sharks 22 8/3/08
Blues 25 vs Sharks 32 14/04/07
Sharks 32 vs Blues 15 22/04/06

A glance at that should make you feel confident about tomorrow’s game, but we saw a similar trend last week and I’m sure I don’t have to remind anyone what that outcome was.

With lots going on behind the scenes in both camps, one would think the team that’s more hungry to win and that’s not distracted by off the field drama would be victorious tomorrow; let’s hope that will be the case for the Sharks.

Let’s hope the leadership comes through strongly tomorrow, the hunger to win, playing with guts and pride for the Sharks jersey, and keep a cool head when it comes to executing the basics of rugby.

I’m sure we all relieved to see the return of Pat Lambie at flyhalf, with his cool headedness and his ability to inject a dose of eagerness into the backline.

  • Pretty impressive having beaten them six years in a row. Thats 7 games beacause we beat them in the 2007 semi final as well.

  • The Sharks and Blues are the France of Super rugby! They combine the brilliant with the bladdy awful all in 80min of rugby! If the Sharks can man up on defense I think they will have the beating of the Blues. But if we leak easy points again this week then things could get ugly…

  • Bryce Lawrence as TMO. Maybe Sharks managements vociferous complaints last year against him worked. At least he’s not on the field. Just make all tries clearly visible to the blind guys!!! 😆 😆 😆

  • with graham henry now helping/coaching the blues i expect them to improve, but the turnaround could talk longer…

  • @Megatron (Comment 7) : Unless Graham Henry is working big time on their mental approach I cant see a short turnaround in performance.

  • Yikes, what a combination – Steve Walsh and Bryce Lawrence. I mean I know the Blues need some “help” but they could have been a bit more subtle.

Our biggest battle will be to control our frustration as there are bound to be some interesting interpretations of the laws.

  • Well as long as Dr. Du Plessis doesnt hand out more smacks round the chops we should be ok. Take a deep breath boys and move on!!
