Paul Jordaan has been summoned to join Dawie Theron’s SA Under 20 training camp and will thus be unavailable to the Sharks for either Super Rugby or Vodacom Cup duty this weekend.
Jordaan, who has endured a frustrating month on tour with the Super Rugby side without even a single minute of game time, is seen by Theron as one of his key back line men, after featuring in last year’s IRB Junior World Championship. With the Under 20s set to play against the Argentine counterparts again at the weekend, it’s a pretty good bet that Jordaan will feature prominently, although we’re still not sure exactly which position Theron sees him playing for the junior side; Jordaan can do a job at flyhalf, centre or wing.
The development will come as something of a blow to the Sharks XV, who may have been counting on the Baby Bok’s services ahead of this weekend’s game against the Kings. His secondment to the SA Under 20s brings the tally of Sharks XV regulars out to 7.
Meanwhile, Theron has named an inexperienced side to play the Pumitas this afternoon, comprising mostly under 19 players. His first-choice outfit is likely to feature again on Saturday.
SA Under 20 Invitational XV:
15. Dillion Leyds 14. Quinton Norris 13. Johnny Kotze 12. Kobus van Wyk 11. Ruwellyn Isbell 10. Harold Vorster 9. Hlanhla Hlungwane 8. Cobus Nel 7. Leneve Dames 6. Shaun Adendorf 5. Marvin Orrie 4. Jacques du Plessis 3. Neethling Fouche 2. Stephan Coetzee 1. Marzuq Maarman
Substitutes: 16. Jaco Visagie 17. Andrew Beerwinkel 18. Henkus van Wyk 19. Lungelo Chonco 20 Rayn Smid 21. Wian van der Walt 22.Tbc* 23.Tbc*

Best thing that could have happened to Jordaan. Much better collecting junior rugby honours than Sharks bench splinters.
@rhineshark (Comment 1) : when will he be given 80 mins in the Sharks team? As well as JP played against the Blue I still prefer him at wing.
‘Maarman’ What a name for a prop 😆
My money is on him running out on the wing for the Baby Boks, with the gifted Jan Serfontein having virtually made the no.12 jersey his own and Small-Smith or Howard likely to fight it out for the 13 jersey
@slammerboy (Comment 2) : Umm, that’s exactly the point. He isn’t even getting 1 minute, let alone 80.
@Ludz (Comment 4) : I’d prefer Serfontein at 13. Think lonng term her’ll be more successful here. He has the right attributes for this position.
Congrats Paul, well deserved! At least some in S.A. realised his talents, wonder how long until another union also sees it
Bummer. So hoped to see him on the field for the S15 team 👿
@slammerboy (Comment 6) : yeah, also would like him,but from what I’ve heard they are using his strength and bulk as a battering ram at 12,so it’s unlikely that he’ll be used anywhere else, that I said I do think he’s wasted as he offers so much more
@Ludz (Comment 9) : what a waste! A guy with good skill, size and speed should never be wasted at 12. We need to see quality come through at outside centre considering the Bulls and Sharks have both used wings at 13.
I suppose if you’re employed as a battering ram then you’d fit in quite easily into the Bulls setup 🙂
Paul Jordaan is a good player but he ain’t no JP du Plessis!! 😈
@wpw (Comment 11) : “bush master” jordaan is good.
@wpw (Comment 11) :
😆
So we’re stuck with Joubert…. 😥 Nice work Plum…. 😐
